Rando: IF IT WERE A NORMAL MEMBER WITH A WRONG TAKE WE'D BE BANNED INTO OBLIVION BY NOW

Y'all are weirdos sometimes.
this is almost the perfect nep contribution:
- continuing a derail
- insulting the community that she could change for the better if she didn't think they were all stupid
- referring to a day-1 member with thousands of posts as a "rando"

between her and dubs directly telling ppl to fuck off, it's clear that a big chunk of the admins actively despise most of the forum.

which is sad because a (very accurate) comment here awhile back about uzzy being "good people" made me think about why the staff's attitudes are so frustrating, and i think it's because the vast majority of ppl on there are actually pretty ok, i've made some great friends there. it's the reason that this thread and it's predecessor bring up the same short list of posters all the time: most people on there just like being on a gaming forum where you don't get called a slur for saying TLoU sucks. that's why the common refrain is "i just hang out in hangouts/OTs," there's plenty of good conversation there, and not everyone is busy ban-baiting each other into oblivion.

when the ban bot was active, you could see this in action, because the overwhelming majority of bans came from shit on the front page. we joke about the like economy, but i wonder if a like system would actually help Era out? so many groups have left the site that the prolific posters who remain are the ones whose identity is now tied up in Era itself - you have "news aggregate" person, "whip up today's twitter outrage" person, and so on. since there aren't any likes, the only ways to get recognized or feel like you're important to the site are getting quoted/replied to as the OP, or getting ppl banned for disagreeing. likes might work as a release valve for the ppl that really need that validation.

anyways pls like this post thx

they're never going to implement likes, because the mostly normal posters who silently censor themselves over what content they post and what topics they post in would realise that they're not the fringe weirdos with extreme and generally unacceptable opinions; its that whatever moderators that are left all have agendas and play favorites.

or as era would put it, "weaponising likes" when outright mentalism gets even the mildest rebuke and that rebuke gets all the likes (and a ban, lol)
Was just reading that. Not going to spoil it for anyone, but get ready for some insane "misogyny"-related diatribes from Ree over FFXVI. A really tepid event that wouldn't be out of place in a random episode of Game of Thrones is about to set them all off. Launch of this game is going to provide a lot of content for us to laugh at.

Huh, weren't they banning people for saying the poster didn't make Gwen trans just a supporter?

No silly, thats the good kind of censorship, not the bad kind the saudis have

Wouldn't it actually be worse if the armies were super gender equal? Then they'd say that they want to feel authentic when it comes to culture and ethnicity but not when it comes to gender.

It's almost sad that making a fantasy game that's meant to feel grounded in a medieval setting is something controversial now

As far as I'm aware, nobody making FFXVI has ever even uttered the words "historical accuracy". Yet Ree brings this up all the time. They're literally making up racist talking points nobody has ever spoken. I think Square knows their anime sword fighting game isn't based on reality; the characters are just a byproduct of aping traditional Euro fantasy which is inherently male dominated/white.

In fact, the words Yoshi-P used to describe the setting are: "faux-medieval realism." Which isn't even close to "historical accuracy". lol

The one where she said it was a mistake to make a big thing about deplatforming Milo Yiannopoulos was spun as her supporting him.

I thought it was strategically appalling. Get on that platform and eviscerate his ideas, get on that platform and expose him for the charlatan that he is. You push back hard. You've given him so much power by refusing to talk. In fact, they were serving his purposes because he was able to walk away from that saying. 'Look, they don't dare debate me, this is how dangerous and edgy I am.' And I don't think we want to cast the alt-right in that light.

Their reaction starts here.

I enjoyed the podcast because she basically says they've been making shit up about what she's said and done ever since her only sin was a couple of liked tweets.

What's funny is that I'm pretty sure there's truth to both of this. There's homophobes who would want any gay person to disappear and never ever interact with kids and then there's people who see drag shows that specifically target kids or sex education books that seem a bit extreme for early education. Both of those then mix at those protests and suddenly there's no middleground anymore. Either you are for it or you're a homophobe.
