I signed up at Gaf sometime around 2011. Then I followed the crowd over to ResetEra after the drama of 2017, not really knowing what had happened. I soon realised everything I hated about Gaf had actually gone to ResetEra, so I went back to Gaf and found it was better than ever.
Then Evilore lost his mind after Jan 6 and banned all his loyal members who had stuck by him and supported him during and after the 2017 exodus.

This ultimately lead to the creation of dpad.life by the community of banned members. I was there from day one on this one. The site had a lot of promise and potential, but unfortunately the mods at dpad now treat their members like children, causing several members and many of the most active contributors to leave.

And so now here I am here.

With the exception of TheBore (both incarnations, well done demi and benji), all these forums are really, really fucking ugly.

What happened to nice, clean, simple designs, like in the past? Old NeoGAF looked much better than NewGAF.

Not surprised by the split on PC and Switch. They both have a good selection of titles that appeal to people beyond the stereotypical gamer demographic. Although I think the percentages for women playing PS5 and Xbox Series S/X will rise because I think men are more likely to buy these expensive toys early plus the earlier game releases are typically more targeted towards that demographic as well.

I don't know what constitutes a gaming PC, but 50% seems high .

The fact that I can't even raise the issue about Arab representation in the single franchise where an Arab character was always put front and center without being accused of being racist is fucking wild.
Like I'm just trying to imagine the reaction if it was the other way around, everyone would be rightfully so annoyed to have a black character removed from his own franchise. But here it's just an Arab so it's fine and I guess looking at some response I received, with the next AC the quota for Arab representation has already been met.

Putting this thread on ignore for my own sanity, but maybe it would be time for some people on Era, including mods and admin, to not treat non-black minorities like some second class citizens who deserve less instead of more.

Okay, the new commentated trailer shows a lot more and the game definitely looks better in it than its initial trailer made it appear. Guessing the impressions from the first trailer were so bad at times the studio made a more in depth one over a few days that shows more interesting stuff.

Doesnt change that the character has a shitty design or that for a middle eastern game it has like zero middle eastern characters but it at least looks fun now.

And also the issue with anything is a status quo on a systemic level. This is only an issue because the industry is ruled by anglos and east asian folk when it shouldn’t be that way when you break the population numbers down. Asking for certain folks to be the face of something that’s almost entirely not made by them reinforces the status quo as optics gets a trillion times more attention and engagement than systemic issues. And no diversity initiatives (aka the status quo throwing the minority a bone) does not help anything. The issue is an entire thing being controlled by one or two groups of people. Not that those two groups of people don’t hire of use minorities enough in the works they create.


Why don’t said minorities own their own studios where they can make works starring themselves and what could be done to fix it?. Start there.

Asking to approach things from a systemic standpoint is the complete opposite of bootstraps especially when we are talking about media. Why does exposure in compassion to square enix means anything?
