but games have always been diverse, arguably the most diverse medium, sometimes you play as a cartoon hedgehog and sometimes you play as a floating L block

bogging it down with academic understandings of diversity is utterly boring, you got half the industry feeling compelled to tell stories of a certain type with allusions to specific real world issues around every corner

you get a more diverse experience if you don't even have to think about that and just let it happen naturally when it makes sense

Judge is a Black man currently facing a weird amount of scrutiny over a joke from a few devs and fans of of the game regarding the length of the campaign, who are now trying to turn this situation into one about the plights of workplace abuse in the games industry, which Judge is not responsible for and didn't even joke about.

This is despite the fact that Judge was joked about for months on this same awards show, without anyone trying to use the plight of voice actors or motion actors as a shield against jokes being lobbed at him. (Probably because Black people are rarely considered empathetic victims of anything!)

Outsized, hypocritical scrutiny at the words and actions of a Black man for a small slight, if what he said could even be called a slight, is like textbook racial prejudice and has literally been a thing for centuries.

So yeah, if you wanted to prove to me and anyone else in the room that COD fans are a bastion of racial tolerance, you've failed immensely. Keep being fucking mad.

He's done nothing wrong, he made a single joke. When people say that some posters like to stand on their soapboxes and feel like they're doing something while lecturing people over nothing this is the exact sort of thing they're talking about. This isn't about better working conditions in the industry, it's about you feeling good about yourselves for a moment at the expense of another person. You don't give a rat's ass about the devs, you just want to have that nice feeling where you get to lecture people from the high ground.

This is a joke that is ultimately self-deprecating to Judge by using the game's story campaign length as a punchline. Furthermore, the game is an entry in one of the most renowned and financially successful media franchises in literal human history, which makes the "punching down" comparisons especially gross even beyond divorcing them from actual minority politics.

Ultimately, the joke has nothing to do with the the industry's working conditions. If the campaign were longer, they workers would still be subject to harsh conditions because they always have been. That's been the nature of the business for decades. And ultimately their conditions are the fault of people this entire thread is trying its damnedest to not talk about, people with whom Judge will likely never be in the group of.

The insistence on trying to make Judge's joke about that, to try and turn this into a roundtable about the poor folks who got fucked over by ABK, is utter bullshit when

A) Y'all were never there for Judge like you are these devs when he was under the fire of community and industry wide jokes for months despite also being subject to the same industry conditions as an actor, and

B) Y'all aren't even there in any meaningful way for the ABK devs because the gaming community has absolutely fuck all in the way of consistent grassroots organization for labor rights. It's the fatal flaw of being in a community where the main method of cultural expression is fucking buying and consuming shit.
