Quickly looking up other big movies this year. Oppenheimer is $100M. Barbie $150M. Mario $100M. How are they regularly hitting 2x costs.

Don't they do something retarded with the VFX? Like have loads of different stuff rendered, I'm guessing that adds to the bloat.

Don’t get me wrong, I doubt Starfield even remotely has the legs of Skyrim for a lot of reasons. At least for right now though, they seem to be working on it. This time next year though? That might be dicey.

It’s not a bad game, but as someone here said (might have been you even) the setting and atmosphere, though original, is not very interesting after you spend a bunch of time with it. Ultimately it need a different storyline than multiverse of Todd.

And there is still something there to work with now that we know there are parallel universes in the game, they just needed to make those more common in New Game+.

They just need to add mod support so you can be a gay dragonkin and rape furries and the slaanesh cult of era will be endorsing it as best thing ever

most of the numbers in that chart are based on assumptions about how money gets divvied up, which are very rough estimates but broadly often correct

we know production budgets and box office, theater take is assumed to be 50% of box office and marketing is assumed to be 50% of production, but those can vary a lot

the general thought is that they need to sell about twice as much as the production budget to break even in order to account for all the other expenses

Reminds me of Cyberpunk, where it was very important that TransEra not see any threads outside the OT, but this for some reason didn’t apply to threads shitting on it for the state of its launch.

I’ve seen stories about over using VFX because they don’t worry about unions or whatever. But that’s supposed to save money.

Where does the money go. To pick on captain marvel 2, as far as I can tell, it doesn’t have any high profile talent to drive the cost up. Even if somehow Brie was getting Robert Downey Jr money, like $25 million, that’s still $250 million unaccounted for.

When that MARVEL MAGIC came up about how long and how many visual effects it took to do that mirror scene in Moon Knight a number of the experts on Twitter both defending it and criticizing it mentioned how they massively overshoot scenes in case they need more shots to use in the visual effects work. This apparently combined with how producers setup shots schedules I do wonder about the truth regarding my DaCosta Cut joke.
