I didn't know that debate was even on until it was an hour in. Barely saw any clips posted on social media. Nobody cares lol. Really the only interesting development has been Haley gaining steam, but that's only interesting in regards to DeSantis' campaign being a joke. Her rise directly correlates with DeSantis rolling out "major' endorsements in Iowa that haven't increased his polling at all. 

You can sell me on polls being wrong. Hell, I think there's a massive issue with national polls right now, and on the state level we know a caucus is harder to measure than a regular primary. But overall the state polling is simply too consistent to convince me that it's wrong for the primaries. We're talking about a pretty narrow group of motivated voters (ie people who vote in presidential primaries). I figured Trump would be at 25-30% right now, poised to win as long as the republican field was split. Instead he's running in the 50s. Sometimes the 60s. And btw regardless of how people read this there's one conclusion that must be shared: DeSantis is a flop.

Most countries are trending in the same direction. Never in a million years did I expect Wilders to ever win an election but he did and by quite a margin too. 

The US would have to be a significant outlier as a conservative bulwark if they vote left/center and against their wallets and domestic priorities. 
And all the polls would have to be very very wrong. Especially on the issues. Because the numbers show Trump is leading because people trust him more on the economy, migration and things like the war in Israel than Biden or any of his Republican rivals.

With that said, the Republican primary voters might decide to pick another candidate, because Trump already had a shot.
I don't understand why his Republican rivals don't hammer this point home. Trump had his chance and he couldn't do it. They skate around it on COVID (he was friends with Fauci) but not how he partially botched his first term with a very ineffective first year in office with Tillerson, Priebus, Scaramucci, Amarosa and all the other clowns who came and went. And that is something he can't spin as a deepstate plot or political trial either.

I also think the left has lost their 'moral' high ground on a few issues that while not important election issues just make it harder for them to show how they are 'better' than the right. With Ukraine they've shown to be warmongers as much as people consider the right to be war mongers, with COVID they showed how quickly laws and individual rights ended up in the shredder. And what should've been a 'triumph' to beat COVID with science has just been a tsunami of government and corporate scandals. When it comes to anti-semitism people see how they not only march against the jews like the Tiki Torch Nazis but also gaslit raped women and victims of terrorism. New York, one of the most 'open' cities in terms of migration, perhaps in the world is now saying enough is a enough. And the only time they cleaned up the streets of San Francisco was when Xi came to town.

They also haven't come to terms with the reality of losing the moral high ground in the eyes of the public, so every time a left wing public figure says that Trump or whoever else on the right is a Nazi, peoples eyes roll. Now would've been a good time for the left to seize the opportunity and promote bold economic ideas like UBI but instead they're circling the drain of supporting Hamas, questionable gender therapies and centrist neo-liberal economic policies that no longer work.

Some of it is also bad luck, had Ukraine beaten the Russkies during the summer for example there would've been great victories to celebrate.
