Amazingly, WB might have lost less money if they had scrapped the Flash and spent the money to finish and release Batgirl instead.

Have any of these Batgirl movie fans looked at any of the leaked footage or anything? It looks just as shit as WBD said it did. It was supposed to be a straight-to-streaming movie. It was finished and they had already dumped money on touching it up. It would have fucking bombed in theaters, the tax benefits probably far outweighed the theater distribution costs alone. Notice that they made the opposite decisions with Blue Beetle, which itself has a cast of Latinxes and may technically be the first Gunn-DCU film.

The Flash had/has serious potential of legs, they had already sunk all the costs into it (the movie was done, during the wait they've been shooting more cameos and editing the ending not changing the movie), it's the ending of the DCEU, the director is so prized by WBD and DC they just tapped him to helm the next Batman movie, etc.

I honestly cannot understand how these people dig in instantly to some position they don't actually care about and adopted just to go with a mob popular in a niche "video game" forum.

Imagine being given a hundred plus million dollars to make a fantasy world and you make an even whiter version than the real medieval Europe. Talk about zero creativity and care for diversity.

They're ignorant of history in every way possible so they project their ignorance about other cultures backwards in the distant past based around irrelevant information like the Moors in Iberia.

Bought my tickets for Spider-Verse and snuck in to a 11pm show, wasn’t going to give this shit a dime.

Real world Ezra stuff aside (and only to clarify my points here, you should absolutely not just ignore what a monster they are), this was incredibly embarrassing and legitimately one of the worst blockbusters in over a decade, if not longer. Genuinely feels like a work print.

• Writing is unfathomably bad. None of the emotional beats land, none of the nostalgia bait lands, none of the stakes land, it’s all a bust.

• Countless effects shots are legitimately worse than, like, Son of the Mask. Like I said, it was like watching the work print for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

• Andy Muschietti is the textbook definition of a hack. There is no creative footprint on this thing, it’s like an AI was given the prompt to direct a superhero movie from 2004 with no discernible style.

• It’s so clear and funny that this was originally shot to reboot the DCEU post-Snyder and then Gunn entered the picture, those plans went pear-shaped and suddenly the ending just became “uh, fuck it, I dunno” with no major reworking to 90% of the movie to accommodate it. Unceremonious deaths of the once-prospective figureheads of a dead rebooted cinematic universe and a dead end ending just to try and make this thing semi-releasable before it all gets chucked in the bin under Gunn’s reign. Absolutely incredible stuff. Yet another one of the great showcases for why this cinematic universe shit is for the birds and should never be banked on unless you’re Marvel, the only folks to actually do it.

• Nobody in this feels like they’re even mildly interested in trying. Ezra sucks and is completely grating every time they’re on screen, both Keaton and Michael Shannon turn in the most “here to cash the check” performances I’ve seen in a long time and Sasha Calle gets absolutely nothing to work with before being killed off because, again, plans changed! Don’t need ya anymore, sorry! Thanks for playing!

• The CG resurrections aren’t just hideous, they’re ghoulish and blatantly exploitative. Fuck every last person who approved them and clapped in the theater like trained seals when they happened.

I’m going to be really generous here and give this turkey a 2/10. It only claws back those points because I have to admire the level of “fuck it, I dunno” you have to reach to end with a Clooney Batman stinger that’ll never go anywhere and just wiping Ben’s miserable ass off the face of the earth with no fanfare. If I admire anything in this world, it’s watching a movie studio visibly and unrepentantly shit the linens and that ending is one hell of a strong case for a new comforter.

What a cataclysmic disaster rarely seen these days. Reaches levels of incompetence and ineptitude we usually don’t get anymore with big budget blockbusters where it can’t even manage to get the basic fundamentals right. Hey, I guess this did make me nostalgic after all!

Y’all, last time I’m going to post ITT because holy shit, but let me clarify something here:

1. The immediate turn to aggressive defense here is insanely unnecessary. If I had done my moral duty and given the money to Flash instead of another movie and walked out with the same exact opinions, would I still be getting dog piled for not liking the movie?

2. I’ve had this avatar (and a Spider-Man-related avatar in general) long before Across the Spider-Verse came out. My avatar is not indicative of my preferences in some stupid made-up internet fan war over superhero movie franchises.

3. I went into this movie hating Ezra Miller for being a terrible person, not wanting to hate this movie. Was I repulsed by the idea of the garish CG necromancy once word started to spread? You bet! Does that mean I went in thinking “I am going to hate this thing and nobody can change my mind!” No. If the movie was good, I’d say it was good in spite of Ezra… it just wasn’t good in my opinion.

4. The moral grandstanding here has gone above and beyond given the situation. This is a franchise movie starring a really, really bad person that the studio has expressed interest in retaining despite their heinous crimes. I, despite wanting to see the film and form my own opinion on it, didn’t really want to throw more gas on that fire by boosting their box office results directly to co-sign more Ezra in this role. Giving a meager amount of money to a movie that I enjoyed - not because of my avatar or some dumb fanboy war between million dollar corporations that only the weirdest, most terminally online people genuinely care about - was a pretty decent compromise to me so that the theater and a movie that didn’t push a horrible person as the lead would get my money. It’s not “piracy,” I’m not killing the theater industry or the wider business of theatrically released films. The amount of vitriol I’ve gotten here for such a stupid, innocuous thing is absurd. If y’all want to keep piling on about how I’m suddenly the world’s most dastardly criminal for walking into the theater across the hall to watch a different movie instead of the one that I bought the ticket for, more power to ya, I guess. You’re all fitted with better moral compasses than me.

5. Throwing words around like “criminal” and “thief” to describe someone who didn’t direct their $14.29 to the movie that they wound up sitting in on is absolutely insane. I didn’t kick a puppy (or go on a crime spree in Hawaii.) Take the vitriol down several notches here and get back to talking about the movie. Me posting my opinions and sentence-long description of how I went to see the movie wasn’t supposed to derail the entire thread but here we are, y’all made your point. I have been suitably scolded. Honestly, I think that is more damaging for diversity championing at Square that Forspoken bombed in sales and critical reception. Forspoken was their genuine attempt to diversity and inclusion, and it was a disaster (partially thanks to their western creatives, ironically). Foamstars have diversity but is because is imitating games as a service like Apex Legends (a game that is big in Japan) rather than a conscious decision. 

In that regard, stuff like the popularity of Apex Legends there may tell you that this stuff is neither malicious or internalized racism (    ), but indifference.
