Such a shame that they have never been able to move on from that portrayal of trans people. As far as I remember, a lot of people are fond of how Tweek and Craig are handled as a couple, so they are able to portray some queer people in a more positive manner.

The fourth episode of the entire show was very brazenly about gay acceptance and normalization... on cable television in 1997. Which makes me wonder why they missed the boat so hard on other LGBTQ issues and demographics. And it's not like they haven't had hundreds of chances to correct course on their transphobia. It's an utter shame they couldn't set and maintain a positive track record there when they were out in front so early with the message that "it's okay to be gay."

It's a very simple explanation....they are just hardcore transphobic. The Garrison/dolphin episode was in 2005. They just have repeatedly made clear what and how they feel about trans people.

Among my own friends I need to defend transphobia and sometimes I throw in 'well, you supported me when I came out' and they will say that is different.

You can sadly be supportive in one area but completely be trash in another for some people

gay people might be horrified to learn that a woman tricked them into thinking they were a dude, it cuts in every direction

I'm actually skeptical that B-Dubs, Nepenthe and some others read here. Hecht admits to it and I imagine some others also check in for "security reasons" like he claims because there's too many actions that connect to what we mention. Maybe there's some secret sympathizers on the staff that haven't been uncovered and see stuff and "independently" bring them up like when I was making fun of how long the "duration pendings" were lasting that one time with a leaderboard.

The reason I don't believe others like Nepenthe do is because I don't believe they're capable of reading so many dissenting opinions one after another. Maybe they become habituated to skimming past any post with more than a few sentences but that wouldn't actually cut down on it much and only avoid the better sources to enlighten their own positions. Of course I suppose they could also argue that since they know the opinions are automatically illegitimate they can dismiss things like when I describe them as acting explicitly like cops or historical fascists.
