The issue, I think, is how you interpret the term "lose".

In a more practical, real-life sense, most people borrow money for a reason. To buy something, to pay for a service, to use in something (yes, even gambling would count). In this sense, you're spending money to get something in return.

Let's say you start at -$100. If you borrow $100 to use on something, you're temporarily at +$100. Then you use that money to buy something, so you are at $0 + a thing. Taking into account your debt, you're at -$100 + a thing. You'll have to come up with a way to get $100 to go back to $0 + a thing. The "thing" is effectively costing you $200: you get $100 in advance, then you have to come up with $100 to cover that advancement.

-100 + 100 = 100

This is the part that's actually the truth within the verbiage. If you start out at $-100 and take out a loan for $100 your debt is now at $-200 even if your in-hand cash is $100 whether you're going to use it for thing or repay your debt or just let it inflate away. Like most economic experts who know how to run society they cannot make a distinction between current cash flow and debt. This is the joke I make about how I pay off my credit card debt with other credit cards but he's serious about it.

Yeah. Purple and green (and often yellow) are the typical colors representing Mardi Gras. They probably left the yellow out deliberately so the comparison would be harder to make, but those two particular shades of purple and green ARE the Mardi Gras colors of choice.

Nevertheless, still gross. If their profile picture is to be believed, the quoted Tweeter with the bigot Christmas tree appears to have even dyed their hair to purple/white/green, as if they need to clearly identify to the entire world just HOW MUCH they hate trans people. They're disgusting.
