Modern therapy is odd. The old wisdom always used to be therapy as a challenging session for self improvement. It’s difficult to confront your weaknesses. Not something to look forward to. I think there are psychiatrists who are trained and licensed and can offer advice, which you might describe as providing therapy, and then there are therapists who are just supposed to listen and ask questions

the idea being that everyone is paralyzed with fear of getting sued for offering bad advice that someone took, and only the most elite and expensive psychiatrists will have the insurance and waivers that allow them to do that

As someone that has never watched this guy before, I was subjected to this particular show as the wife started watching it (with no knowledge of any of this stuff or even who he is).

While there's a heavy emphasis on the trans attacks in here, I have to say that in that particular show, he was far, far more offensive towards disabled people. Like physically pretending to be disabled, making fun of their missing abilities, just generally being massively offensive. I have no idea how any of this is allowed to fly in this day and age. It wasn't funny, just horrific. He barely actually told any jokes at all the entire show.

Also he did the squinty eyes thing pretending to be Asian to boot. Like... holy shit. And he's getting paid to do this. What are you playing at, America? If anyone deserves to be "cancelled", it's this guy.

Completely disagree. The stuff about disabled people was obviously tongue in cheek. He wanted the audience to associate the absurdist comedy bit about disabled people with the jokes he has done, and will continue to do, about "the gays". The implication being that it's all just good fun and it's ok to laugh at gay and trans jokes. Pretty much every single bit he did in the special included a jab at some faction of the LGBTQ+ community. Every single bit. He can't help himself. I used to associate him with smart and insightful comedy. This special, like most of all of his newer ones, was about hate.

Election season is going to go the same as it always has. Folks are gonna kiss our ass about how we're the real heroes of the nation and then tip their drinks to us for one night if Biden wins, before descending into the same nonsense we see in this thread for the next four years where ultimately Black people are forgotten about. If white people instead decided to outvote us to vote in Trump (or whatever Republican is on the ballot because who the fuck knows about Trump's viability at this point), the takeaway will be that we talked too much about identity politics; transphobia, Palestinian genocide, and to a lesser extent things like central American immigration and Black issues with policing will be on the chopping block.
