Bringing up FF12 as a symbol of diversity in direct contrast to FF16 just because it has a brown rabbit woman (not even a human) in the main cast and Arabic architecture in Rabanastre.   

Did she play that game? Everyone in it is white (aside from Dalan, who she didn't mention) and the the Arabic naming "Halim Ondore/Al-Cid etc" is about a surface level as you can possibly get. The voice actor (who's white) of Ondore even uses a random fake Indian accent despite the character's Arabic coding.

I actually just finished replaying this on PC a few weeks ago; it's still a mediocre game but the writing is underrated in retrospect. The entire cast is very well considered and they worked hard trying to give everyone an arc and character growth.

Not new but for me that Ash Parish tweet about peak gaming experience was all i needed. She has been rightfully critical of the diversity concerns and Yoshi-Ps response and wrote the great Verge article, so potential praise from her is awesome

Like, Goku doesn't say he never kissed Chi-Chi or that he doesn't know what a kiss is, the joke is that Goku is old fashioned as old culture dictated that kisses were something private that couples shouldn't do in front of others, and is shocked at the audacity of Trunks and Mai asking if you can kiss in front of others and that he never kissed his wife in front of others...but Vegeta misunderstands because Goku only implies the latter.

It's why in Japan no one cared or made memes out of it, Japanese fans were just like "Goku was raised as a hermit by old men and his wife seems old fashioned herself...yeah, this makes sense" because...well, fans around the world are usually the samein many ways and will heavily criticize bad moments or scenes, the kiss joke scene wasn't one of those there.

I think the issue was that the joke was too much revolving around Japanese culture and less blatant than it should be for people around the world.

It makes the joke go from Goku being old fashioned and Vegeta misunderstanding, possibly also playing with the fact that Vegeta is kinda a foreigner himself, that Goku somehow never kissed his wife or knows what a kiss is, into everyone thinking the same as Vegeta and putting it as a dumb joke that makes Goku into a bigger idiot than ever.

I mean, kisses were so private that many traditional weddings or Shinto weddings didn't even have the couple kissing because why would you show that in front of others!?

There's something you have to understand about being extremely online - you gain a particular type of sociopathy that's like a more callous form of autism. When you mostly socialize through abstract, asymmetrical message boards you don't have the sobering influence of witnessing other peoples' reactions to what you're saying, like facial expressions or tone of voice. It's all just words on a screen, they're not real people anymore, only an output for your input. If you were to talk to somebody IRL and tell them that you don't care about those people who died on a submarine, they would be disgusted at you, and no matter how much of an edgelord you are your animal brain would be swayed and tempered by that reaction because a monkey who disrupts the social order gets no bananas. I need to be completely honest here, this thread is fucking embarrassing and is embarrassing from two different positions that I will now outline. If you feel attacked by the rest of this post, I would ask you to reflect on this and ask yourself why and if maybe you should change your behavior or views in some way. That said, I doubt it happens and I expect a lot of angry tickets, reports, PMs, and general whining on whatever discord you're on where your buddies will tell you that you did nothing wrong and flame me and describe the time they got banned for bigotry or platform warring as something more noble instead of the nonsense it was. Because that's what usually happens in these situations.

Moving on, here we go.
1.The first group that should be embarrassed are the ones celebrating this. You lack empathy and use your ideology to justify it. What you're doing is known as "othering" and it's something you likely learned about in high school. Othering is when you take a group of people and separate them from the rest of society and use things like stereotypes in order to justify said othering. Usually, when someone others another person they use this to justify treating them as different, as separate, and somehow deserving of the bad things that happen to them. It's a way to justify feeling happy when shitty things happen to them. When this thread started everyone felt bad for the people missing, then when we found out one was rich that flipped around and people started celebrating even though that also means you're celebrating this same thing happening to the other victims. This is called being an asshole. Random people do not deserve horrible things happening to them, regardless of who they happened to be in a room with. By celebrating you are literally justifying the deaths of random people as "worth it" to kill this one guy. You can not care, that's fine. I don't care about all of this. I feel bad for the innocent people and don't care what happens to this guy, but a lot of you are straight up crossing the line even if you think you aren't. You know who you are because you feel attacked by this and you should because you're embarrassing yourselves. Be better people, it's not hard. Just don't be an asshole, you learn that as a kid but apparently people forget that lesson when they hit adulthood. Seriously, don't be a jerk.

2.The second group that should be embarrassed are the people who are derailing the thread by "tut tutting" the first group of people. You're making this thread about them instead of about the actual victims and we should all know better than that. By engaging in this behavior you are making the thread about yourself and the people you are attacking. When bad things happen to people we should be centering the victims, this is basic. This is the sort of thing that everyone with empathy intrinsically knows. By making it about yourselves and the meta discussion you take the focus away from those who have been hurt, killed, or put in danger. All of a sudden it's about you on your soapbox and you give space to the assholes in point one to make the thread about justifying their othering, thus making the problem worse. Derailing a thread like this will never make it any better, this is why I made a staff post telling people to knock it off. You should be embarrassed because you recognized the bad behavior and instead of ignoring it, reporting it, and keeping the focus on the victims you made the thread about the forum and the posters in this thread. Congratulations, you derailed the thread.
There is also a third group that did the right thing that has no need to be embarrassed because they did the right thing. They saw the thread was in a bad state, sent in some reports, and tried to keep the focus on the victims. Good job, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for not making the thread about you and trying to keep the focus where it belongs.

As you have probably noticed, I made a staff post earlier in this thread asking everyone to knock off the nonsense. Everyone decided that this did not apply to them and kept going. I happened to be at work and what do I find when I get home? Bullshit. Seriously, grow up, go outside and touch some grass. It wasn't a hard request, but apparently not being the center of attention or having basic humanity is hard. Who knew?

As such, I will be going through this thread and issuing bans to everyone who decided to ignore the staff post and a few of the ones before I made my post because holy shit guys. My suggestion is to take this as a learning opportunity, a moment to reflect on what has happened and grow as a person. We're all like that, nobody is perfect. Everyone will fuck up eventually.
