I'm not defending the multimedia IP Suicide Squad in particular, but anyone saying that a D-lister hero or team can't be successful and have widespread appeal is nuts. I'm a comics guy but i'd never even really heard about Guardians of the Galaxy until the movie happened. All it takes is one good adaptation, which sadly for DC hasn't happened much in the last... 13 years

Gunn's Suicide Squad was a huge, huge bomb. The first film made money on the launch due to the snappy advertising but is now reviled and very poorly thought of.

Gunn's movie was good, but just felt like a worse take on his Guardians. But again, I don't have any issues with villains or anti-heroes really. It’s really just Suicide Squad in particular. Just always feels more like Harley Quinn and some randos, and the whole they're being forced to do stuff because of the bombs always take me out of it tbh
