OP, I want to be careful here because I'm not an expert and sexuality is a broad and complex subject and I don't want to swoop in and just reject the way you self-identify, but here's a genuine good-faith opinion of mine that I'm sincerely presenting as some food for thought based on what you've posted, in the spirit of trying to be helpful. If you absolutely know for a fact what your sexuality is then by all means ignore this. Here goes:

I don't think you're heterosexual. Not a typical heterosexual, at least.

That doesn't mean you're gay necessarily, either, but there's a very conspicuous lack of heterosexuality in your posts. You don't frame your issue as "there are women out there I'm attracted to and would like to be with them" you frame it as "I kind of would like someone to spoil me who finds me attractive." Setting aside that that's a very feminine mindset (I'm pretty sure it's the specific reason women aren't attracted to you - they're looking for the same thing), it's striking how there's noticeably zero indication that attraction to women is your motivation at all.

 

You mention that you can tell when a guy looks good (straight men are largely clueless and many of them openly admit it), and the above in particular stands out to me: you're still confident in your looks despite having completely struck out with women your whole life. Frankly it probably should make you a little insecure or have you second-guessing but it doesn't--you know it must be your personality because you know you are physically attractive. You have taste in men's looks. It's something to consider.

do y"all remember during the PS3/360 generation how everyone was saying that japanese gaming was stagnating? former giants in the industry were struggling, with square enix putting out the unpopular (but great, i'm dying on this hill) xiii trilogy and huge series like kingdom hearts and dragon quest being MIA on consoles, konami becoming a shell of its former self (remember that e3 conference?) capcom having a bit of an identity crisis and mid-sized developers disappearing entirely

is the same thing happening now to US AAA developers? what made me consider the question is the combination of suicide squad seeming like an inevitable flop after nearly a decade of development, combined with all the layoffs happening everywhere. it made me think about how most of the US developers that were seen as the best of the best are now struggling. blizzard just canceled their new survival game and overwatch 2 seems poorly received by fans. call of duty still sells well but they are having a harder and harder time to keep the release schedule without compromising on quality AND expanding the development teams to unsustainable sizes. bungie is struggling with keeping their player base happy in destiny, naughty dog just canceled a game, halo is in decline, arcane austin just released a huge flop.

meanwhile, the games that are generating the most buzz come from elsewhere. nintendo is firing on all cylinders, yakuza somehow became a pop culture phenomenon, from software which was always a niche studio are now rockstars. even final fantasy is generating buzz with the 7 remake trilogy and capcom is BACK. the most talked about service games come from chinese mihoyo.

if you agree that the US gaming industry is struggling, what do you think is the cause? and how can they recover and eventually see the type of resurgence that we are now seeing for many japanese developers?

edit: some responses have pointed out it's a general western trend rather than us only. and i think i agree. so where does western AAA go from here?

Was Hogwarts Legacy really the biggest game of 2023? In the U.S., at least, it apparently was. It’s a condemnation of the American games industry as a whole, and a sign that consumers really didn’t care about trans players’ feelings around the Harry Potter game.

Hogwarts Legacy: a depressing tale for trans gamers
Yes, Hogwarts Legacy was the biggest game of 2023. Which is quite depressing. Trans gamers asked their fellow players to avoid playing the game last February, noting that Hogwarts Legacy would sanitize J.K. Rowling’s image, further increase the cultural power her IP has in the world, and embolden bigots who purposefully purchased the game to show their support for Rowling—all while the Harry Potter creator continues to spout transphobic drivel on her Twitter account. Meanwhile, others alleged the game had a serious problem with antisemitic tropes, while controversy stirred around the game’s seemingly shoehorned trans character.

All this criticism and more, however, did little to stem the nostalgia for the Harry Potter series. I remember playing a Valorant match in February 2023, and after a player asked if I was trans, she requested my permission to purchase Hogwarts Legacy—you know, despite all the controversy around J.K. Rowling. In her eyes, it was just a game. When I politely dismissed the question to avoid transphobic harassment, saying I didn’t really care what she did with her money, she was pleased with my response—more or less calling me “one of the good ones.”

I suspect most gamers feel the same way as that random Valorant girl. It’s, after all, easy for a cis person to excuse what they do with their money. It doesn’t really matter. It’s just a toy! Some trans people just have too much free time on their hands to complain! Say what you want, Hogwarts Legacy fans, but your support for the game is damning: a clear sign that people won’t listen to trans gamers’ boycott requests if the product in question is too alluring to avoid.

I Can’t Help But Wonder: Who Is This New ‘Harry Potter’ Show Even FOR?

On the one hand, that’s another reminder that any money spent on anything Harry Potter will find its way back to Rowling and her hateful policies, so it would really be better to stay away from it. On the other, it really got me thinking: Who exactly does Max believe the target audience for this show is?

I also can’t imagine Gen Z would make an eager audience for a show that is supposedly going to be more faithful to the original books and so adapt riveting storylines like “Hermione is actually wrong for wanting to free the house elves, who are happy to be slaves” that only a real-life combo of Dolores Umbridge and Petunia Dursley could come up with.

Most of the Gen Z fans that I know live firmly in fandomland, where the world of Harry Potter is much more diverse and infinitely more queer than anything Rowling could ever create. The Marauders fandom has taken on a life of its own, with so much content and so many established and beloved headcanons and fanfictions that rival the original books’ length—and are actually better written.

I can’t imagine that people who spend most of their fandom time reading about Remus Lupin and Sirius Black—or its more recent but still very popular companion ship, Regulus Black and James Potter—would be much interested in new official content where the only confirmed queer character is a retcon.

And even if people end up watching the show—and some definitely will, let’s not kid ourselves about it—then there comes the question of whether a phenomenon like Harry Potter can be recreated. The movie franchise is still very fresh in people’s minds, especially the ones who grew up with it, and so are the actors and actresses who made their appearances in it.

I personally don’t really believe it, even though once again, even heaps of criticism towards any and all aspects of this new show whenever it’s released could still be considered publicity and count as a net win for Max. Still, I suppose that only leaves young children as the target audience—those who would be of the same age as the characters when the show actually airs in the same way that the original readers of the books were tweens just like Harry, Ron, and Hermione, a sort of attempt to recreate that same zeitgeist of the late 1990s to early 2010s.

Of course, I don’t think they will manage it—zeitgeists usually happen organically and don’t take as well when they’re being force-fed on people, which doesn’t really make them zeitgeists at all. Still, I guess we’ll have to wait and see how things go. Maybe we’ll luck out and Max will axe the whole thing so we’ll never have to think about it again.

The Japanese listened to their critics and made changes based on player feedback and humbly approached the PC gaming market to expand their audience. 
Improving their products every step of the way and delivering the full experience day 1 instead of some convoluted roadmap of things to come.

Never going to happen with most western studios who both hate their clients, don't want to crunch and think bigger budgets and more people can fix everything. 

Remember when the likes of DICE told people to not buy their game(which was shittier than the previous game) if they didn't share their values and they all cheered?
