The Xbox meltdown on Ree is so weird and melodramatic. Why does it matter if they go third party? They barely release anything and what they do release is already multiplatform since it's on PC.

As an Xbox owner I'm pretty pissed.

I enjoyed Microsoft wasting billions on my favorite hobby and subsidizing $80 games for peanuts. 
Not to mention this obviously benefits Sony the most. They will own the high-end console market lock, stock and barrel.

Finally this will mean more developers closing down. After all 'Good enough for GamePass' sure as hell isn't good enough for $80 PS5 release competing with Sony first party and Capcom titles.

Call it platform warring if you want, I truly do not give a shit, I was wearing xbox socks today and drinking my work coffee out of an xbox mug. The reality is they have monumentally fucked the job and people have clapped them onto disaster.

From reading that thread it seems to me that the big meltdowns are coming from the true believers of the church of Phil Spencer, who have finally had the scales lifted from their eyes and are confronted with the reality of Microsoft buying up and ruining some of the best studios in the business.

I do enjoy getting stuff like Lies of P and Persona 3 Reload on gamepass tho. What I cannot forgive is ruining Halo.

From this point forward there is no reason to buy an Xbox, especially if Day 1 GamePass releases are done.
You either buy a console with diminishing third party releases and a few first party games or you buy the console with PlayStation first party games, Xbox games and all third party games. And those rumored third party consoles. (i.e. MSI and MadCatz Xbox systems) are not going to make a dent.
 
Some could make the argument that a PC is even better but a gaming PC will still set you back $1000 and a PS5 costs half that. Not to mention the simplicity of consoles compared to PCs.

Now this whole things fails or succeeds with Sony gracefully accepting Xbox on their platform and not gleefully declaring its dead and PlayStation is the only game in town. 

Microsoft should not bother with the 'All Digital' Xbox. It'll be dead in the water and a SEGA-level console flop will only speed up the decaying process of the Xbox brand.

In the end it will be Activision/Blizzard/Bethesda under new ownership with all things Xbox like HALO, Forza, Hellblade, Sea of Thieves and Fable gutted or cut.
Those games could barely compete on Xbox where they had the home turf advantage.

I'll probably stick to PC/Switch for now, I was going to buy a few more Xbox games like Tekken 8 but I'll just wait for the fire sale of everything Xbox.

I'm genuinely fascinated by how they managed to get so far with so many games in development without realising the games were utter shit. I know for a fact they've spent considerable time and money on user research for these things, so what were the researchers reporting? Who was listening? 

Redfall is a great example. Anyone with eyes knew that was doomed from the moment it was pitched. They bet their brand on it.

The investors have really fucked it for the average gamer though, I expect the pivot came when the ABK deal closed and they realised how much money they could make by putting games on other platforms based on how dire the console sales have been.

i'm sure xbox is going to just "fine". but also a lot smaller. i can even see a console still existing while they license out the "xbox os" to acer or whoever else to make the portable xbox ala the ally/deck. that and mobile, gamepass, xbl gold on those devices, in addition to games on ps/switch is probably the future.

ms isn't sega, they aren't broke and they'll always find a way to turn something into a service to make money.

I don't really know where to begin because I'm tired of being a downer.

I'm 43, my husk of a marriage has ended, I get to see my kids four times a year, I'm unemployed, I'm living with my mom in the middle of rural-ass nowhere. All I can do is try not to spiral every minute of every day. I've been trying to distract myself with games and movies and I end up watching and playing stuff that just reminds me how much of a fucking waste I am. How people in the goddamn mushroom apocalypse or whatever have better lives than me. People who know who they are and have goals and aspirations and want to do things and go places and have interests. Or are just dead and therefore don't have to worry about much of anything.

Riddled with ADHD and OCD and anxiety and depression and my whole daily schedule is just structured about what pill I take when. And I stare at the ceiling and wait for something. All I do is wait. Because every time I manage to snap out of this nightmare for even a moment and decide that I'm tired of feeling this way and I'm going to make things happen, I get shot down like a fucking WWII plane and everything I fear gets validated and it resets me for months. So I learned my lesson. I wait for the world to decide if and when a thing gets to happen and then I react to it.

I'm the most depressed I've ever been, and I've been depressed for 30 years.
I hate my job, I don't earn enough money to live on, I'm deeply unfulfilled, I tried to pursue my lifelong dream career and failed, and don't know how to recover from that.
Everything just feels like it's steadily getting worse/harder. I have no joy in my life anymore.
The only good thing in my life is my partner and she is close to leaving me because she can't deal with my depression and mood swings any more, it's making her incredibly miserable now I feel torturously guilty about it.

i pulled out my 401k savings during covid when they temporarily paused early withdrawal penalties, sold my single family house and combined the funds to get a 2 family where i live on the first floor and rent out the second. Goal is- hoping it will be paid off by the age of retirement, rent both units and move to asia. will it work? who knows. but my math on this path looks more promising than the pennies in comparison in my 401k. my neighbor currently went back to his home country of italy doing the same thing, property management company takes care of his building and sends him a direct deposit after keeping their cut. but best of luck my fellow same strategy retirement warrior, hope i see you at the horizon in 30 years 👋
