Posting this here to really hammer it home how much the "social media: bad" angle is used to hurt trans people while hiding behind a veil of progressivism. We've had several topics on ERA about politicians pushing bills to ban minors from social media under the pretense that they want to protect children, and try to appeal to people's experiences of stumbling onto sites with messed up stuff when they were younger, when they just really want to cut off queer youth from their support networks.

How many of these people tell the same born again story about how they turned into a chud thanks to 4chan and YouTube before they eventually saw the light as part of some advocacy for banning everything from social media and the internet in general? if you've ever gotten a view inside a trans safe space discord it's all doom spiraling, catastrophizing, and when they're not talking about how much they hate their life and the world it's all coomerbrained hornyposting ("oh my gawwwwwd I can't wait until my fat tits grow in and I can look down at my own cleavage")

by contrast plenty of support groups you might expect to be negative, like harsh movie criticism, are chill and thoughtful by comparison
