But it's rather like shoving your finger into one of the many holes in the dike you and staff have created, while all but ignoring or attempting to paper over the rest. For example, even if some members of PoliERA 2.0 have their perma-bans rescinded pending review of a "good ticket" (whatever that means), the rapid substitution of the PoliERA OT with a new one under much tighter admin control before any banned members could even be reinstated casts any gestures from staff to mend fences with wrongly-expelled community members in kind of an insincere light, don't you think?

And in case it needs to be reiterated again, the doxxing Nep experienced is genuinely horrid by any standard, and is, I hope, roundly condemned in all quarters. But isn't it far more likely that the same people who've doxxed and harassed members of this forum for years were (again) responsible--seizing an opportune moment to do so--instead of a community never once before now suspected of doxxing or harassing anyone?

You've basically stated everything that I'd intended to say, except in a clearer, more convincing, and more concise way. I'm not a Jewish person, so it's not my place to accept or reject an apology, so I'll leave that aside. Candidly speaking, personal growth is great: everyone should try it, myself included! I don't need to see the process involved in anyone's personal growth play out -- it's not my business -- so all we can do is judge the actions.

As far as your second point goes, that was implicit in my earlier one, but I'll make it clearer -- timing definitely matters, lurkers (might) matter, and there are dark and horrific corners of the Internet that were probably really amused last weekend. Absolutely NO ONE should be doxxed or placed in a state of fear. But let me be emphatically clear: the posting of anyone's home address or images thereof happened entirely off-site, probably in one of those dark places by nefarious actors that I don't know or care to know. There must be affirmative recognition of that, because I take serious issue with any narrative that attempts to paint one of the several hundred Discord users, who are also Era users, as in league with the worst dregs of the Internet.

This is why I recommended Discord owners look at their perpetually offline people. It really doesn't take a Ph.D. to exploit already-existing fractures and friction among Era communities, and that's something that should be looked at. I'd say more, but [USER=1944]Finale Fireworker[/USER] explained it MUCH better than I could ever hope to do.

I fear the new Politics OT won't be as effective as the previous ones, just given the nature of successive exoduses of subject matter experts on things like statistics, polling methodology, or fundraising. (Same logic goes for other depleted communities like hardware sales. It's the nature of dynamic communities.) But it'll be what it'll be, and I hope it trends positive. For my part, I'm basically over following politics on Era during this election season. This entire saga has been exhausting. This'll be my final post on it. Good luck and be well.

Just got back from a nice walk with my son (8th grader) and because this thread was the last I had read before heading out, I had a talk about standing up for folks and to hope his friends group aren't douchebags and to actually confront them if anything offensive is said towards or about another student. He's a passive kid with a good head on his shoulders and in with a sort of misfit, geeky (endearment) and diverse group of friends and he has stuck up for equality in the past (against a teacher) so I hope I'm doing OK. Parenting is tough with how shit kids(people) can be at school(everywhere).

Something many people don't even realize they're doing. In fact, calling this, a situation where during a video aimed at other POC a black woman explained how her small team of peers was formed, racism, is literally a microaggression. Like JFC. Again, critical thinking skills, please apply them.
