Because the gaming side of Era are full of trash people who don't care about others so long as THEY'RE having fun, because they aren't in an intersectional minority that it affects. I think it's different inside the industry tbh. The chatter coming from the devs and associated consultants is fairly understandable concerns of being targeted by the mob. On the face of things it is a bit weird to have huge organised campaigns against specific consultancy companies because of ideological battles.

I don't think many people who actually work in games will be joining in the forum witch hunts, bar a few extreme personality disorder cases on Resetera. But they're all shitting themselves with the layoffs and industry at a pivot point etc

this is going to sound cruel but most of the more vocal members of that clique whole issue is that anything that potentially destroys their illusion is bad.

Sexy women in games/media?  They will never be able to match that (or rather don't want to try to)...so therefore is bad

My elderly mom currently has a squatter living in her back house that she's been struggling to get evicted for almost three years now (covid protections in CA delayed things a lot). Shes a professional parasite as we learned that she's done the same thing at the last few places she lived over the past decade or so. She knows how to game the system and is currently trying to extort my mom for an unreasonable amount of money. My poor mom has already lost thousands of dollars hiring attorneys to help formally evict her and might lose more if she's forced to come to a settlement with her to avoid delaying things further.

My mom has done everything correctly, and for all intents and purposes the squatter should've been evicted months ago. Unfortunately the courts have been useless as the judges have continued to give the squatter the benefit of the doubt in spite of all the evidence presented. It's maddening. If the squatter put half as much effort into something positive as she does into being a pathetic leech she'd accomplish great things.

So, it's that short in NYC because we have a history of shitty slumlords and it's designed to give people some legal protection against their tactics. What winds up happening sometimes is the landlord won't fix some vital thing that needs fixing in the hopes of either driving you out or having you withhold rent until they do the fix which would, without these rules, potentially give them cause to have you evicted. Problem is you wind up with assholes like the one in the news report who take advantage of the situation.
