Small aside but I found it absolutely hilarious that the first Captain Marvel movie does the whole "dude tells her to smile, she steals his motorcycle in retaliation" thing, and then the second movie has a scene on that musical planet (don't ask) where a guy tells the black woman to "be more cheerful" but it's completely played off as a joke. Like they can't even keep it consistent

i want to preface this by saying i am attempting to navigate an ongoing issue while honoring the OP request of not using this thread to relitigate individual bans, as that is not my intention; rather, i want to raise a concern regarding a pattern in recent times that have started to isolate elements of the muslim community here, as well as those of us in socialist & other circles in solidarity with them. to this end, i will provide a few brief examples without the specifics of username/threads etc.
one recent instance saw a palestinian member (whose voice is rather underrepresented in this community, particularly in this moment) banned for pointing out how constant concerns/prioritizing of trump felt as though parts of this community did not care for the atrocities taking place & the US's continued efforts to both support and defend it the genocide. another similarly chided the same sentiment that the biden admin is responsible, not the hypothetical of a trump one, both of which immediately saw bans for invoking the upcoming election in this topic - despite said group being constantly bombarded with minimizing of the horrors the palestinian people are currently facing, as this very election is what is most often centered. granted, the former example was (understandably) heated, but the latter didn't even point any fingers, yet both were given the reason of "sniping at other members".
still another member elsewhere saw a one month ban for arguing that this president has not budged on (his self proposed) zionism.
there are numerous other examples, so again i do not wish to harp on these particulars too much - the point being, moderation has not been clear on the apparently subjective criteria in certain threads, and has seemed especially punitive towards a muslim community already having dealt with past instance of islamaphobia here on resetera.  i do not know if either of our groups have run afoul of certain portions of said moderation, or if there is some form of mass reporting taking place, but given both the ongoing genocide & ramadan, i am asking for clarity & some grace here.  i understand these are (rightfully) contentions topics, and as always appreciate our staff trying to help navigate them - but while i do not believe the intention here is to silence these communities, this is in fact becoming the case, and there are currently no other venues to share this concern that i'm aware of.
again, i'm pointing this out in good faith, because i do not wish to see more members of our communities lost - especially when, again, their perspective is needed in this time.  i hope this request is met in the same manner, and appreciate clarification & camaraderie here.

My wife straight-up doesn't play video games. Her hobbies are so far removed from this one. On that note, this reminds me of a recent episode of 'How did this get made', a podcast where some comedians watch bad movies. In this case they saw a really lowbrow animated Danish movie about Barbarians filled with dick and tit jokes. Surprisingly it was actually the woman that liked the movie the most and took a liking to the hypersexualized but also super strong depiction of the female barbarians.

Basically no one is even saying that they're wrong for feeling the way they do, just stop assuming that every other woman shares that sentiment.

One of the reasons they hate things like Control for Jesse Faden is because it's based off of an actual woman and ultimately, underneath the memes and the trolling, that threatens them. Having women in major roles helps uproot the myth that men are inherently better, which is the only way these people can feel any sense of worth since they're the bottom of the pile in their own category. The only way they can feel better about themselves is by adhering strictly to the mindset that they are inherently better than half the population, and resent women for their own mediocrity or insecurity. Part of this often persists into their sexual fantasies and needing to feel superior and dominant, in which fantasising about imaginary children is the easiest way for them to achieve it.

Unfortunately places like Steam remain fertile ground for spreading these beliefs and radicalising young, angry, disenfranchised white men and boys into the fold. So instead of some insecure teen who's not having luck with girls doing some introspection and improving their position, they cling to rhetoric like those seen in GG as it absolves them of having to change. White men are the real victims, western ideals (that happen to be modelled around a time where men subjugated women) are crumbling. There isn't anything wrong with them, it's just the world around them that's robbing them of their value and place in it. Which is why you end up with complaints like "men knitting" as it's a perpetual search for other things to be the problem.
