I'd chalk that up to some women here already feeling that their opinions are being ignored, with posts that can be seen as skirting the line passing by, then finally a very obvious post sitting for a while with no one acknowledging it as a problem. I think folks are fine playing this game, but you need to be hyper aware that a non-insignificant amount of people want this game to succeed for the wrong reasons and take an active stance against it. I think trying to be passive about just wanting to enjoy it is a naive idea if you care about women's issues in the industry. There are going to be folks in these topics who will be completely in bad faith and it needs to be the other folks in the topic to nip it in the bud.

To give a genuine if impassioned response, the opinion doesn't change for me. If someone's using AI like that, even an artist, my stance is fuck them too. Short-sighted cannibalism of their own profession, snake eating the tail and all in my mind. I have no respect for it. I say all of this being close friends with some good and hardworking artists who have lost a lot of opportunities and income in favour of AI-generated shit, both raw and tweaked-and-edited. It's devaluing to artists and their work, and they were already undervalued before all this AI guff started.

So, again, I have bad news for your artist friends if they intend to be staunchly anti-AI for the foreseeable or indefinite future. Their view and yours is, frankly, myopic. There is no "if" it's only "when" at this point and the sooner people in the creative space get on board with utilizing AI as another tool in the creation process, the better. I say this as a Creative Director who uses AI-powered tools and manages a team who does the same.

It's a matter of degrees of intent and implementation. This particular example is, in my opinion, on the wrong side of that extremely blurry, and subjective line, but in another universe these title cards weren't noticeable as having started as AI-generated, and nobody picked up on it because a level of additional human talent and skill was applied to them. People are up in arms over it because the relative lack of sophistication in the end product and the presumption on the part of the filmmakers that people wouldn't care (as we've seen in this thread alone).

This is not me condoning the wholesale misappropriation/reuse/misuse/reproduction etc. of existing artistic works without the artist's original consent or attribution, but again, it's not a matter of if but when that this kind of practice becomes the norm and not the exception. Continuing to rally against it out of some kind of appeal to purity will only quicken the loss of jobs, not stave it off.
