I'll be honest and say I feel the game is pretty embarrassing, if my family walked in while playing it I dunno how comfortable I would feel. Completely understand that's down to personal taste and I am not a prude (more well handled sexuality in games is fine by me) but stuff like the over the top boob physics here feels gross.

What they dislike most is that there isn't some grounds to ban it like with JK Rowling or CD Projekt Red transphobia or even Kamiya being a dick on Twitter.

The game takes place in an entirely fictional setting of anime tropes and evangelion references. The director is a happily married South Korean salary man who never said anything offensive. The body model they used is 32 years old. They have to admit that they simply dislike it because the main character is a female Korean super model that makes them insecure.

Having watched a stream of the demo, the "what if my wife/ kids/ grandma comes in when I'm playing this" argument is really dumb. Fanservice aside, the game is also impressively violent and gory. Add the strong Christian/ Jewish elements, and it's clear this isn't a bland by-committee action romp for general audiences. I also very much appreciate that the marble statues have visible genitals, the Barbie and Ken physique genuinely bothered me about the usual depiction in US games. But yeah, the game looks genuinely impressive and fun - pretty much how I hoped it would turn out, having played Blade & Soul for years and followed ShiftUp from the beginning and this project since its initial announcement.

We need to push back on all uses of AI like this now because it's going to lead to job loss.

Do we? Like, any tool or movement in art is pissed on from a great distance by those who don't want to move on with it. I don't like Andy Warhol, but a copy of a copy, which, well, image generation kinda is, did this over fifty years ago. And it reverbated. I think image generation will ebb and flow into and out of all facets of life, and that genie ain't going back into the bottle and will probably either save or doom us. There are going to be major figures who use it, and major figures who won't. Creatively, I can appreciate things and not like them, or like them and not actually appreciate them. There's so much nuance in art.

Kim Hyung-Tae clearly has, and always had a thing for fetish fashion. Latex, PVC and extreme heels (not just "normal" high heels like in Nier Automata or something, but stuff like ballet heels and pony boots) have been elements in many of his designs ever since Magna Carta for PS2 back in 2004. And that's on full display in Stellar Blade as well. Wouldn't be surprised if he had Marquis and Skin Two subscriptions back in the day. So I guess the complaints could be seen as kink-shaming?

My kid had already got me to pre-order this the last time we were in town but after trying the demo a little, when they eventually relinquished the controller, I think I know what I'll be playing after I get through Dragons Dogma and Rebirth. I liked that a great deal. Lots of secrets and exploration and very little signposting. Surprised at people saying it felt laggy, I didn't get that at all. Weighty maybe sure but not unresponsive. I am usually really picky about that, I could not play Red Dead Redemption 2 at all for that reason.

Well, Nintendo is making a game actually aimed at girls (and I do say girls because the game is for primary schoolers) so it has to actually be appealing to girls and thus not something that makes them feel bad, while Stellar Blade is made to be a fap fantasy for horny men who've never had a meaningful relationship with a woman, except maybe their mother and even then.

Yup. Sony's publishing wing should be absolutely embarrassed for propagating and hyping up this game. Whoever greenlit the publishing deal for this game has earned permanent side-eye from me for the rest of their career with Sony.

He's going to side-eye this person who he has no idea who they are and in all likelihood doesn't exist. Let's ignore the value or meaning of this "side-eye" and what it portends because that's basically not relevant ever. A company like Sony isn't going to have just some random dude who approved any kind of multi-million dollar deal. There's somebody who proposed it (probably after being advised by others) because that's just required in the nature of humanity but there's going to be a swath of executives and people in different departments who all signed off on this. It probably didn't rise to the very highest executive level specifically but at some point the entire list of deals was presented and that level signed off on it too.

At the very least there's dozens of people to permanently side-eye here. Will PlanetSmasher find out who they are? Will he look at the Sony org chart? Will he even look at the credits for Stellar Blade when they're available that will list these people for him? Of course not, but he probably will post an unfathomable number of times in the future about how he's still side-eyeing whoever did this.
