You know, it's not some people here or there that might like the gameplay enough to overlook the problematic aspects of this game and its developer that bother me that much, it's the weaponizining by the far right, by incels, misogynisty and other filth that makes me physically ill.

That Sony is backing it and it's gotten this big is horrifying. I wouldn't care if it was just another horny niche ass anime game no one cared about, but this is getting big and a core pillar in the Gamer Gate 2.0 stuff ...

I had to deinstall Twitter because it showed me just the most vile content lately and in all of that it's just devaststing for me that such a game got so much unearned attention. I thought we were better or rather further along by now, in 2024, but it feels like we're regressing.

At this point I just want this game to release so that the whole conversation will die down a few weeks later. That's my only silver lining with this game right now, that it will go away some day.

Matrix 1 is amazing
Matrix 2 is fine, some great scenes especially in the first act like the highway chase but it just falls off in the second act
Matrix 3 is whatever, mostly a victim of the "Our CG isn't good enough for big battles but you won't see it at 480p anyway" era.
Matrix 4 was a very fun and unique film in its own right, I enjoyed revisiting the world and its characters, I expect folks will appreciate it more in the future

By making Matrix 4 such a cult film it also shuts the door for any real reboot attempts by studio execs with cinematic universe bullshit which was the goal of the director I guess. 

50/50 on the intent of Matrix 4.

WB was planning a Morpheus prequel reboot. One of the director siblings chose to return to prevent it from happening. From the jump Matrix 4 was made out of defensiveness and spite. And the movie itself, which I liked because I’m dumb weirdo, mostly is about soiling The Matrix as a property. Down to “The One” actually being two people or whatever.

In time it will be rebooted. They delayed it the inevitable, and for better or worse, it will be a clean break rather than a continuation.

Once I had a rather safe bubble on Twitter with great art, LGBTQIA+ content, games and movies and cute cats. Then Musk took over, that bubble burst and I constantly saw racism, antisemitism, misogyny, transphobia and more ... yesterday I couldn't take it anymore and deinstalled that shitshow from my phone, it really took a toll on my mental health.

Do we know for sure what Max is talking about here excactly? Maybe I'm missing something since I'm tired and English isn't my first language but it doesn't sound like he specifies which party's action pissed him off. I could see him getting annoying messages from both sides considering what happened during the stream.

I was watching the stream and man the Yovideogame boys sure had a lot of fun praising the game in a way I know would get all of them banned here. Lots of admiring how Eve looked with close up shots to her arse and recognizing the jiggle physics and even having fun with the skin suit. One of the highlights were constantly bringing up the joke how the devs did great accessability wise when they implemented a feature where you can play the game with just one hand while having your other hand on your dick. The joke repeated many times with all of them giggling.

I'm not trying to cancel Max and the boys, fuck no, but maybe we should have similar rules for everyone and point out when they do something wrong even if they don't probably mean nothing bad with it. I just found it weird putting him into spotlight here when in the stream he and the boys did something that would make many posters here feel awkward and demand a ban.

It's definitely a both sides type thing. I don't watch his content so I don't know what kind of language he usually uses but he is clearly skirting around the reason why. My guess is that if he gets any sense that playing the game would be good for content he'll do it.

I think one thing to point out is that while the current rhetoric of "woke" and crap we're mocking in this thread is so blatant, obvious and very fun to make fun is that we need to remember to stay vigilant to it and to call it out and refuse it to allow to take root.

Years ago, long before Woke or SJW and Gamergate, the catchphrase for these people was "I'm not a feminist, I'm a humanist" and this seemed to dupe A LOT of people both offline and online, men and women, especially from "intellectual" white men (the same type of people who mistake being snarky and smug for being actually smart) like I remember this rhetoric being everywhere back around 2011-2014 in the UK and US and there being a lot of stock phrases like "I believe in equal rights for everyone no just women" completely misunderstanding what feminism is (or that you can a feminist and humanist but it seemed none of these people took the 10 second to actually look up what humanism is). I remember the moral handwringing and the chuds of then having a fit when Beyonce openly and proudly called herself a feminist and refused to back down.

I remember at University their was a lecture where the lecturer asked everyone to raise their hand is they considered themselves a feminist; Every woman in the room raised their hand but only one man did and when the lecturer asked why the rest of the men why they didn't consider themselves feminists, they just repeated the "I'm a humanist" rhetoric verbatim and when the lecturer point out the logical flaws of their arguments, they didn't have a responses and just continued to parrot the phrases that were fed to them from the same sources the "woke" rhetoric of today is fed from.

Thankfully this shit died to the point it seems like a lot of people have forgotten it was ever a thing but my point is that we need to be aware of how insidious it can be and to not allow to take shape or that just because you can recognize it one form, doesn't mean your immune to it; I fully believe that one of the reasons why the alt right is so strong in gaming, comic and internet circles is because we failed to push against this (and failed to listen to the women, POC, LGBTQ+ people etc who were calling it out) back during the 00s, both the community and the companies that profited from it and refused to step in like Steam and didn't see where "PC Master Race" jokes were leading to and allowing into the community.

God, I remember those days. When I was still a teenager, I was intensely opposed to labeling myself as anything. I didn't want to be thought of as a nerd, as a feminist, as anything. I pushed back on all of that shit because I was so desperate to be thought of as "normal" after spending middle school as an outcast, so I tried to use faux-intellectual logic like that to talk my way around having to use any labels.

I'm significantly more socialist than I was then, primarily because I had a bunch of female friends who repeatedly punched holes in my logic and sat me down to be like "you know that if you believe all the same stuff we do, you ARE a feminist, even if you don't like the container, right?" Once I outgrew the need to kneejerk reject any label thrown at me things became a lot easier.

I doubt it.

Keanu is unlikely to do another one, Weaving and Fishburne were already out and the creators are too. Plus there aren't any story threads to pick up from.

I sort of expected WB to turn that Matrix Unreal demo into an actual game but there is no chance of that happening anymore, it was actually abandoned and broken for months. It also seems too risky as a GAAS project.

My guess is that if the movie had been a hit, they would've greenlit the full game and developed the franchise further. But WB has now signed up Tom Cruise, Chamalet and Nolan to create new blockbuster films and I don't think that list includes The Matrix.

That's my problem here. There's already enough space outside to do that, let me have ONE fucking place where that shit is not allowed. ONE. That's all I ask. A game that's funding the south korean equivalent of gamergate shouldn't have it's place here, that's all. If Cyberpunk and all these loli games get either banned or limited thread are a thing, I find it kinda hypocritical to allow Stellar Blade promotion. As far as I know it's against the forum rules to demand that things be banned, no matter the perceived double standards or inconsistency. Honestly it would be nice if people just stopped with this. I get why you're annoyed but we can criticize the game without demanding the game be banned or attacking folks who choose to play it. 

I honestly don't care if I'm banned from Era, at this point. Place is fake as fuck. I'll go haunt some moderated discord servers instead if I want to talk about games.

They've generally been good about controversial games in the past, so I'm not sure it's fair to say they're turning a blind eye when they've actively been banning plenty of people. I feel pretty confident in saying the staff is discussing how to handle the game.
