Ressurections was already the perfect final note on "The Matrix" as a cultural idea. A beautiful introspective epilogue from (one of) its original creators, and a cautionary warning that while WB may make more Matrix movies after, the real Matrix ends here.

The Matrix is first and foremost a creative statement and piece of self examination form the Wachowskis. It's not a playground for other creators. If it doesn't come from one of the sisters then it's not really the Matrix.

Also, and no offense to Drew Goddard who I'm sure is a fine person and director, but the Matrix is such a deeply queer work that you probably shouldn't be allowed to touch unless you're queer yourself.

It's a piece of transgender art. I really don't need to see a straight, cis guy's* interpretation of it.

*Assuming of course that Drew Goddard is straight and Cis, because I can't find that much info on his personal life other then that he's married with kids. If he's actually queer himself I do recant some of this.

Keanu is unlikely to do another one, Weaving and Fishburne were already out and the creators are too. Plus there aren't any story threads to pick up from.
I sort of expected WB to turn that Matrix Unreal demo into an actual game but there is no chance of that happening anymore, it was actually abandoned and broken for months. It also seems too risky as a GAAS project.

My guess is that if the movie had been a hit, they would've greenlit the full game and developed the franchise further. But WB has now signed up Tom Cruise, Chamalet and Nolan to create new blockbuster films and I don't think that list includes The Matrix.

When people speak about what they liked in the sequels, at least the action scenes were cool. They had guys like Yuen Woo Ping and Chad Stahelski working on all that. In Matrix 4, they decided to wing it. Some interviews mentioned how they treated it like free form jazz. Bunch of people flailing with jumbled camera cuts.

The bar to get people superficially interested in The Matrix again is pretty low. You look at the John Wick movies being so popular. Who knew people enjoyed fun shoot outs, fights, and car chases.

I'm 22, so I'm around the middle of Gen z, and I got into retro gaming because when I was a kid it was just cheaper to buy gamecube and n64 games then it was to get a PS3 or Xbox or even buy wii games a lot of the time, and GBA games instead of DS games. Add in that I also game on a low specs laptop most of the time, and it just makes sense to play older games, even stuff that was out before I was born. Basically, it's ingrained in my brain to just play smaller and older games instead of massive blockbusters

I was lukewarm when I first heard the news. Then I realized Lana won't be writing or directing the film. Im now intrigued. Drew could definitely deliver something fantastic.

Just keep the Wachowskis away from it please. They are not good directors. They made one good movie and have been coasting ever since.
