see, theres the good kind of rioting, where you fuck up your own neighbourhood and community and loot your local businesses and sometimes they just dont come back and you made your own territory slightly shittier more permanently, while the people responsible for whatever your beef is are basically unaffected.

then theres the bad kind of rioting, like jan 6th, where you take your protests directly to the place the people you hold responsible work, and some of them are even there to get right shitted up in fear of the mob, and they have no choice but to act on what happened and maybe even make some kind of change.

needless to say, era are big fans of the 'I might get a free playstation tho!" and less so the "omg lock them all up forever for sedition" kind.

About a year and a half ago my wife and I decided to move into a bigger house to accommodate our second kid on the way. We had saved enough money so we get a really nice house for about 300k in a decent neighborhood (I live in Kansas, where 300k goes a long way). The neighborhood seemed very nice, and it is, except for the house right across from us.

Since moving in there have been three drive by shootings that I'm aware of, two shootings inside the house, at least ten ambulance visits (not exaggerating at all), a swat team raid, several brawls, random screaming in the middle of the night, and two instances of animal control taking pitbulls that were terrorizing the neighborhood and putting them down. The main guy that lived there was murdered in Kansas City with a suspect at large so we thought our woes were over, until low and behold this morning about fifteen shots right outside my living room and a car zooming off.

Police come every time, collect evidence (in today's case bullet casings), and leave never to be heard from again until the next incident.

Before you say "move", just know it's not that easy. It seems like everywhere we move to there are shootings and bad neighbors. I'm so depressed about it and I don't want my kids to grow up in this kind of environment but I also just don't know what to do or where to go. Literally we've lived in four different places and they've all had how neighbors, but this one by far takes the cake

Is this like, common for anyone else? How do you stay sane?

There is no excuse for institutional racism and abuse, and hopefully the death of Nahel will change some things.

There is also no excuse for senseless destruction which targets far more people who have nothing to do with said abuse.
