Are these guys still going with this? Man, Gamergate came and went. They just need to accept that they lost and the world wants games that can include more people.

Their anger became their purpose in and of itself, not that they ever had much purpose to begin with, just an "excuse" to vent their frustrations. A lot of them probably don't even truly understand why they're angry, and they certainly don't care to actually do an ounce of self reflection, it's much easier and self comforting to whine and lash out about whatever it is they're repetitively spoon fed every other week from their favourite YouTube/Twitter grifters.

Good opinion piece that has a flaw in the reasoning: assumes the other side is willing to listen and learn.  

The most important thing I teach my students is to seek out people who disagree with them.

These are the same guys that throw Zionist as a slur and then they wonder why they are called anti semitic. They shouldn’t be repressed but they can and should be challenged. Is a vicious circle because the political class want to silence them while the propagandist like to create martyrdom, and the people in the center just don’t want to be involved.

I think their general point is that the character is only sexualised for the male gaze, but unless the developers have said/implied that (I'm unaware so idk), then I don't think it's a very fair criticism. Criticise people like Kojima for things like the Quiet situation all you want, but boycotting/attacking a game simply because the character has a certain body type is so outdated. They try to use the 'real women' defence, but there are plenty of women that look like that, and they are just as valid as the women that look like Ellie or Aloy.

Early Access for a game like this personally doesn't make a lot of sense to me but i also am not a person who likes to replay things like this.
I would feel very weird about Dark Souls if it just stopped at some point and i was about to wait for like 6 months for a new area to come out or for a boss being totally redesigned or for balance changing every week

This is also how I feel. I cannot imagine replaying a game over and over again a hundred times until it comes out and is "done". I think I'd be sick of it by the time actual launch happens.

You'd just fail at the tutorial and bitch about it anyway.

Stellar Blade has quite a bit of controversy surrounding it, this staff post aims to acknowledge this and help users navigate around the thread and these issues a bit better.

Sexism, Sexualisation and objectification are blatant in Stellar Blade and a bit of an MO for this developer.

A fair amount of unsavoury types have rallied around Stellar Blade to champion the game, often in bad faith.

The developers of Shift Up have faced allegations of firing of their staff for supporting feminism. A strong reminder to not rely on random twitter posts for information on the subject given the general lack of of reliable sources and the language barriers.

Support and understanding towards fighting against sexism in our hobby is an expectation. Regardless of how you feel about the specifics of this game, this dev or whatever instance or example, this is an area we expect members to be mindful of. Do not be dismissive, troll or antagonistic.

Criticism of aspects such as sexualisation or depictions of minority groups in video games or developers' actions has been allowed since day 1 of the website's existence. Don't try to gatekeep conversation.

You do not have to engage with this line of conversation. You shouldn't try to force people to engage but neither should users jump in to antagonise members and expect not to get called out and moderated.

Discussion and criticism is valid in the thread. However, it doesn't mean you will get the discussion and engagement you want if this is your primary focus. Similarly the Why Women Criticise Sexualised Design |OT| is a also valid thread for these conversations but keep in mind this community is its own space and should its members ask to move on or take a break from the subject it should be also respected.

Don't snipe or antagonise members.

No metacommentary, it is not helpful and fuels frustrations. Report problems and give moderators time to review. Concise statements highlighting the problems help a lot in reporting.

I genuinely don't think the outlets are afraid of the backlash. Many probably just don't care very much - acknowledging sexism has always been nothing but a token effort, immediately tossed aside at the next shiny game. FF16 could droop with misogyny, and one heard nary a peep.

It's easy to be for inclusivity in the abstract, but the moment it actually affects the hype thing, it's not a factor. That's why the gnashing of teeth by the chuds over DEI etc was always so laughable. The idea that gaming as a whole cares all that much is mostly marketing, not much more. And that really sucks.

Don't take this as a defense but as a condemnation.

It really won't. It's a PS5 exclusive, it's not going to be breaking any records. People didn't run out to buy PS5s for Rebirth, DD2, and Ronin, they won't do it for a new IP either.
