I've never come across a person who has ever had a sincere "genuine question". It's usually asked by white folks who want to try and "trip you up" in what they consider a gotcha moment or to try and enforce their (usually ignorant and bigoted) opinions beliefs onto either a marginalised group or minority under the guise of wanting to know about that minority.

To be it's up there with people who like to play Devil's Advocate. aa phrase almost always used by some cis-het white guy who wants to disguise his own disgusting beliefs and behaviour as a hypothetical.

I'm sure somewhere out there is someone is asking a question that they wish to be genuinely educated on, but if that's true, wouldn't doing one's own research into that question be better than asking a person who shouldn't hold any responsibility for correcting ignorance?

I know Google search has big issues especially when bigots can pay money and get great SEO to spread misinformation or can be used to reinforce an ignorant mindset. I know from experience that bigots set up misinformation on Trans and Non-Binary issues to be at the top of Google search. That's a whole other discussion needed on how to remove misinformation from Google.

But it still doesn't stop one from listening to people of that experience, and observing and then researching afterward OR even seeking out experts in the field who are also of that experience.

Essentially I don't trust anyone anymore when they say the words "Genuine Question".

It's literally that Popper quote I posted some pages back. They think whatever they think is true because they can never error. So because they're neurotic racists/sexists/etc. everyone must be. And everyone else is blinded by ideology, even as they constantly post in ways that proves they don't think of individuals at all or secondary effects or anything else beyond thinking of intent as magic. They don't picture "shutting up and listening" as you learning you were wrong but learning that you didn't know and now the truth has been handed to you that you can just repeat. There's no actual thinking involved in how they picture learning, the truth is just imparted to you from a priest. There's never any point where you have to consider what is true or employ your own skepticism against what you're being told. You either blindly accept (when what you're told comes from a priest) or blindly reject (when what you're told comes from a banned source) and should never question the subjects themselves, only the motives of the sources.

Look at the effort they've put in over the years on there to not just excise the forum of dissenting views but convince everyone else that it's wrong to ever listen to dissenting views and you should never do it.

Even as they time and again run into problems from making these pronouncements like the one against anti-semitism running into the pronouncement about how you can't support anything labeled a genocide. Or both those pronouncements running into the ones about Biden.

That thread is beyond standard anti-intellectualism into outright rejection of thinking. Their argument is that people don't ever encounter things that don't make sense and they want explained before they accept it, instead that's actually the persons latent hatred and bigotry coming out that they're attempting to harm people through seeking understanding. It's literally an argument against achieving understanding, a standard to which they never hold themselves. It's an extensive bad faith attempt to outlaw questioning them while at the same time placing a burden on everyone else to prove they aren't acting with ulterior sinful motives at all times. (Something you can prove only by uncritically accepting everything they say and never dissenting.)
