Frivolous purchases thread

This thread is for all the pointless shit that you bought.

Stuff that really has no practical purpose other than you thought it looked cool and you wanted it.

Share your poor financial decisions with me.

I'll start with a new knife I picked up recently. It's a Gerber Quadrant folding knife with a bamboo handle insert (cost me AU$37).

I love the shape of the blade and the bamboo handle really does it for me.

It was cheap enough to be an impulse purchase too.

The only practical purpose it serves is as a glorified boxcutter and I'm OK with that.

I just think it looks cool sitting on my home office desk among all the other clutter.

One of these days I will buy a Sound Burger. Every time I walk past one in a store, I whisper “…sound burger…” to myself.

Gimmick is analog keys and gamer stuff when you can dial in actuation pressure. Super fast polling responsiveness. Multiple RGB zones and a light bar.

…I don’t care about any of that, but the layout looks perfect for me.

Bought myself a bass and amp. Haven't played in 25 years. Planning on jamming with some old mates I used to play in a band with back in the day.

Soon-to-be: Versa Gripps on black friday

I’ve dealt with a slight tendinitis and was recommend these things meant for, essentially, enhancing grip.  They’re ordinary $80. Not crazy expensive but knock offs are $10 on Amazon and as a macho dumbass who lifts without straps or support, I was hesitant to go all in. So I got the cheap pair. They’re incredible. Feels like there’s a direct link from weight to muscle in a way I haven’t fully felt with pulling movements, with no pain or tension. It’s also revealing how shite my grip is and something to work on when recovered. My gym tops out at 50kg dumbbells, but even with those my grip gave out on rows. Now it feels like I’m failing when my back is failing. It’s great.

tl;dr: if the cheap fake Chinese brand versions are this good, I’m gonna upgrade to the proper USA ones.

After spending some time with both real and knock off, in some respects the knock off is better. The official versions are almost too good. They stick so strong that racking, you have to yank your hand off the bar. Especially pull ups. I dirtied them up a little because at first, I had to do semi one arm pull ups and shimmy it off. It’s my fuck up because other made in America brands sell basic leather ones functioning more like regular lifting straps.

tl;dr it’s so sticky you can open pickle jars without gripping.
