The fact that TikTok was known to collect swaths of user data for years and was only seriously considered being banned during the COVID-19 pandemic/the George Floyd murder seems a little telling of where politicians' priorities are.

Call it a hunch, but it seems like on some level that they acknowledge it's a powerful political tool for younger generations, don't want it around because of this, and are using the "it collects your data" aspect of it as a justification for it. If it was really a concern, they would have banned it a while ago.

This is already the 4th reboot since the Series X launched   

Plan A. - Series S / X (couldn't get a games line-up together despite buying multiple studios, S holds everything back)
Plan B. - XCloud / GamePass / PC (sacrificed console sales to prioritize cloud infrastructure and PC games)
Plan C. - Bethesda / Activision (acquisition gets caught up in legal storm but 'big games' like Redfall and Starfield finally start trickling out)
Plan D. - Multi-platform blockbusters (divest from GamePass, focus on multiplatform software sales of blockbuster IPs and "next gen" licensed games (Indiana Jones, Marvel)) 

I think they're calling Xbox games something like: "Microsoft Gaming" on PlayStation which is probably the future of the brand (apart from retaining the Activision and Bethesda brands).
Shutting down the studio behind HiFi Rush is mind boggling, probably their highest rated game in a decade or so and unlike Perfect Dark and Fable it actually shipped in a short time. Those guys will be working for the likes of Capcom, Nintendo and Square Enix within weeks. Microsoft may have also fixed Nintendo's staffing problem at Retro Studios in Austin by shuttering Arkane.

My only current hope is Scotland becoming independent, but they're in political shambles. My wife is reluctant to move too.

Shutting down Tango sucks but it makes sense. The main figurehead/driving force left last year and since their purchase they've put out one mid game and one good AA level game. But what comes next with no Mikami at the wheel for a studio founded by the dude and made to work at his whims? Also Forza Horizon wasn't that long ago as far as highest rated games.

I think we can all agree that due to his full consent and his writing the song and his condition, this is one of the rare AI wins.

For a tech focused form it never ceases to amaze me their unwillingness to admit that AI is in its infancy and while we improve and learn more about the technology there will continue to be more and more “rare” uses. You don’t think speech therapists are looking at this with extreme interest. As a community that preaches the gospel of identity 24/7, this man got his voice back. That voice was probably the most self defining part of that man’s identity as it afforded him incredible success. And now he has it back. We have millions of people in the US alone with debilitating speech impairments. Again, you don’t think speech therapists are taking note here? Medical speech aid manufacturers aren’t taking note? Neurologists aren’t taking note? 

This is incredible. Not on a scale of being “one of the rare instances of AI being useful” but on a scale of “major stroke patients may never be without a voice again”

Sounds like we're due for another XBOX BUSINESS UPDATE to learn from the prophet Spencer how the gaming industry works  

I see a lot of shots at Phil over today's Xbox announcements. I get it. But knowing him as a human, I know this hurts him as much as anyone else. I can't speak for all of the leadership there, but I do know him and I do know what he is likely going through.

I'm not trying to defend the decisions. I think we all get ourselves into situations that are tough and unexpected (certainly I have). It's part of the job, as is the accountability for the outcomes. But he's a good human and he cares deeply for the creative process and developers. That's my first hand experience in working closely with him for 8+ years and knowing him for 24+.

I 100% understand the anger and confusion, and I feel deeply sorry for those teams impacted today and over the last few months. I didn't agree with every decision he made at Xbox, and I think that was pretty clear, but I do believe in his product leadership and I know how hard these decisions can be.

Xbox could have a very bright future. I hope they are able to  realizes it and all of the teams have an incredible experience together. It's certainly a tough time that needs great clarity into what the plan ahead is and how gamers everywhere can be excited for it.

To me just reading this post here it's reminding me of an ex.
She wasn't black but she grew up around black people. So somehow she felt like she was black or atleast that's how it would appear during any black culture or pop culture event. All her statements were always her or her perception of black and never the actual issue. And for a bit I thought she knew black people because she would say things and know things you'd only know being around other black folx. But the reality was it was only a thin veener of understanding black people/experience/history/culture. She never read an essay, never watched a non comedy black movie, let alone make the effort to goto a black museum. Turns out her knowledge and position on black people came from her having alot sex with black people.

When I called her out on it, it felt like was accusing a war veteran of stolen valor. Just weird stuff, and from what I'm reading I'm getting that vibe from you. I'm sorry.

So I ask directly what work besides living have you done on Black People to give you the gumption to make this thread lol.

I grew up around Hmong people and not nary a time have I ever thought to center a Chinese culture discussion about me. For me if I cared enough about something I'd google it first, then maybe just email a professor at my local college. It's free and they usually answer during office hours.
