This is mostly just me thinking, but is there anything we could do about people completely ignoring a character's ethnic background in order to fancast someone for that role who isn't from that minority?

I realize its not a huge deal, but fancasts about characters like Doctor Doom and Magneto and people just paving over those two characters' close ties to their culture really sucks.

It often comes off as championing for a reduction in representative roles, especially for certain minorities.

And this isn't just a comic thing, its happened with other works too.

It also just feels really weird to see folks just casually erasing minority characters in their minds without even realizing it.

Its actually about the ethics of fancasting

I mean I don’t give a shit about any of this really. I just ride the hype trains and play what’s being talked about but is AAA actually in bad shape?

Last year we had a shitload of great high budget games receive high praise. God of War, Baulders Gate, Zelda, Spider-Man 2 were a few. This year we already have Stellar Blade which is above the cut. 

 Now, we have had some duds like Diablo 4 (which is a fine game imho) and I know that MS is fucking up their acquisitions, EA is just Madden and FIFA, Ubisoft is super hit or miss… but really like 6 months ago during the Zelda/Balders gate hype phase everyone was saying “AAA gaming has never been better!”

AAA gaming has never been better...for the customer. It's just that the economics of producing AAA games have never been worse. 

This is the kind of thing the industry has been warned about for years. Increasing costs of producing games on increasingly powerful hardware with a stagnant customer base. 

The customer is not willing to pay significantly more for the same experience with prettier graphics, so that's why we're in such a weird generation where nobody is actually spending the money to take advantage of the hardware and the customer is basically just buying (and being sold) previous generation games.

The argument I've seen is that things look good now but because games take so long to make we'll notice the effect of the layoffs and closures in the future. 2025 still looks stacked though, so I dunno.

So Damian Wayne:

I've noticed though DC has a tendency to villainize him and paint him as the "bad Robin". I mean there was his portrayal in Injustice where he joins Superman's fascist regime against Batman, Teen Titans Rebirth had him secretly imprisoning villains in a super prison, DC's plans for future state involved turning him into a villain.

Now in the current Batman run We have
Damian defend Bruce lobotomizing Jason, imprisoning former villains who wanted to redeem themselves and in general Zur setting up an authoritarian regime in Gotham. He had him reject other characters telling him this (obviously) isn't Bruce by yelling about how his father can finally do what he was meant to do now the others aren't holding him back anymore and has him weirdly pleased that it's just him and his father now.

Even if Damian figured it out in the end, he was the last one to figure out the obvious, he aided the villain and now he's being held hostage by Zur by his own fault until the "good" Batman and Robin free him. And if they have to sacrifice anything to rescue him Damian is going to be blamed for it.

NGl it feels really weird and a problematic to always do this to the Robin that is a POC, especially when it is used to contrast with Tim as the "good Robin" like the current Batman run is doing
