When I look at:

- 99% of Palestinian discussion is relegated to this one thread that is easily ignored by most members
- Unusually strict rules about sourcing in this thread that prioritize traditionally pro-Israel MSM over pro-Palestinian voices on social media
- Site rules being selectively applied and regular overreactions by moderation that result in bannings of pro-Palestinian posters and Palestinians themselves (including getting upset about NYT criticism of all things)
- The few threads related to Palestine that get created get locked to review reports and never reopened
- Genocide discussion being treated as off limits in any Biden/Democrat thread that isn't specifically about the genocide (in my opinion ongoing genocides that the subject of a thread are contributing to should always be relevant until the genocide stops)

It feels that the whole topic is being moderated in such a way to make it as easy to avoid as possible. We're basically creating a safe space for liberals so they don't have to confront what is happening in Palestine.

Excellent post Micael, when I saw Nola's ban I started digesting how to make a similar argument here and I'm glad you managed to do it in such a thorough way.

Nola is a great member of this forum, one of the few ones that actually still have the patience to continuously push back against the reactionary consensus that forms in practically every political post in this forum. Every time someone like them gets banned or gets driven away, this forum becomes more like Reddit, which, other than this and a couple other threads, it's already indistinguishable from (exception on LGBT issues, thankfully)

This is not an accident: it's what happens when you repeatedly drive away any type of slightly more to the left post in the forum by overmoderating them for a variety of bullshit reasons. All that will eventually be left will be the centrist and right-wing folks with either extremely milquetoast, useless, shallow commentary, or the ones spouting the type of reactionary drivel that aligns with the very narrow and limited political understanding and imagination of the admin of the website. Leaving two or three great moderators (e.g. Nepenthe) to have to endless push back on their own against this bullshit every day to what I can only assume is a fucking nightmare routine.

I'll also add one thing to Micael's point, this one targetted to Israeli or folks with Israeli connections in the forum. I see a lot in this thread and elsewhere the frequent reaction to Israel population criticism of the conflict with reactions "we actually want peace, we are against the war, we are against Netanyahu and he is the problem"

While I'm absolutely glad most people who post here feel like that, if you really want peace and change, instead of trying to diminish valid and accurate criticism, the first thing you have to do is concretely realize the context you are immersed on. Unless you can concretely provide data disproving the pool after pool showing overwhelming support for this concrete war that is happening right now, you need to reach the realization, like Americans, Brazilians and many other people had to over the years, that a lot of your countrymen are temporarily or permanently pieces of shit.

You need to go fight them (either by changing their minds, or by other means), not the people laying out criticism at them. And if you're using your limited energy for the latter instead of the former, you are also part of the problem, despite your noble intentions.

She's probably realized that everyone thinking, "Nah, we don't need to tell the Emperor he's naked, he's harmless" and ignoring the delusions is how we ended up with people ENFORCING the delusions as they are now.

they need to realize that the average person isn't generating some art and saying "look, I'm an artist now!"

AI is mostly being used by ARTISTS or at least people interested in graphic design and the visual arts, because it's not an "I win" button to instantly make perfect art, it's always flawed and doesn't represent your vision, which is why an artist's eye is needed to tweak it significantly for it to be used professionally

artists stand to benefit the most from utilizing a new tool, just like they did at the advent of photoshop

the ones who embrace it and incorporate it into their workflows are profiting from it and the ones who reject it without even trying it will suffer as society moves past them
