It's funny, because they know and use the right words that break out of this mentality: "critical thinking", "media literacy", "transparency", etc. but use them as terms to bolster their ideology like they call other people fascists when they're the ones behaving like fascists.  It's probably subconscious, but it is meant to erode and undermine conversations that might threaten the ideology.  And when those words are just throwaway terms, people can't even engage in a constructive dialogue with each other because nobody agrees on what those words mean - they've purposely confused people by disjointing meaning from real words.

Not to psychoanalyze them but I've read enough of these language games from their betters (i.e. actual progressive academics) to know it's about assuming you can create a rigged game through specific language usage. It's about providing themselves an out they think they can deny to you. "I didn't mean that, I meant something else" (while never saying what they meant) at the same time denying you could have meant something else than what they've decided you meant with your choices. I'm doing it so you must also be doing it for your own attempts to obtain power over me.

It's like there's some failure to grasp that other people can just deny your definitions similar to how they never seem to think someone can deny their premises. That's why they have to fall back on social shaming if you don't chant the mantras. Outright denying the power of their language choice/usage is absolutely epistemic violence by comparison.

The trans stuff ("trans women are women", "trans rights are human rights" etc.) is maybe the most obvious example because of who makes up the forum I can point to but they do it with everything like you mentioned. They're not likes, they're highlights. (The myBB "likes" mod actually is a "Likes/Thanks" system, but I didn't setup any of the "thanks" stuff so does The Bire really have likes?)

They completely changed the meaning of "ratio" on Twitter during that. It used to be when a tweet had more replies than likes implying that more people were dunking on it than liking it. Then suddenly it became when some loser posted under it and they got more likes on their tweet than the OP. Then they started posting "ratioed" just to get these.

These are two different ratios and one has a lot more value. Especially when the latter method is revealed to be someone bot boosting the likes as Keffals did.
