To some degree I can understand. When you make a fully fledged character their sexuality would inevitably be part of their personality to some degree. It's also a bit of a "if everyone is bi is anyone bi?" situation. In the end however it simply comes down to the goal of the devs, if they prioritize player freedom or story. That they try to blame it on the straights is really weird though as a common complaint with bioware has been that the same sex romances aren't as good (or as many) as the straight ones. So I think this is actually bioware catering to their LGBT audience.

So to start this off this is not about The Acolyte which I'm actually really enjoying funnily enough, but this is something that's been weighing on me as a Black fan of a lot of these major franchises (Star Wars, Marvel, LOTR, etc). I feel like I'm tired of Black, POC, Women creators finally getting their shot at these properties right at the time that due to whatever circumstances (production pipeline probs, exec oversight, or whatever) the quality has taken a noticeable dip. It feels like actors, writers, and directors from marginalized groups are being thrown into the fire and paying for the studios sins. I know this is an unreasonable ask but part of me just hates seeing fandoms and critics drag these people through the mud. I would just like us (speaking for just Black folks I guess) to get funding for our own new franchises and let white people be the face of this mid era in IP.

So less a serious ask and more of a discussion point about this current intersection of increased diversity in TV/Films and the drop in quality at the big studio level.

A leader who argues that the more civilians die, the better Hamas' own standing is. That's what someone should argue.

Because otherwise, we start assessing which civilians are directly participating in hostilities on behalf of a belligerent (Hamas) in an armed conflict ... and that assessment (improperly) seems simpler. Some cases are easy: like the "journalist" who held Israeli civilians captive and, by doing so, lost his protected status and was lawfully targeted. But most people are ordinary, regular people suffering under Hamas rule and Israeli occupation and, depending on the facts and circumstances, are victims of IDF-launched international humanitarian law violations. They are unambiguously victims. Tying them to Hamas in any way does them a disservice, both ethically and legally.

What boggles my mind is that a Real Example of Good Diversity that is Not Forced and is High Quality exists, specifically in gaming spaces. The Last of Us 2 is practically a chud-nightmare of alphabet people and racial diversity.

But it all *feels* pretty natural and hangs together extremely well. Aside from all the murder and dismemberment, these characters interact with each otehr in ways that are familiar to me in real life. There’s a reason that it—generally—is an extremely well-regarded game across all gamer spaces.

There is nothing wrong to point at an example like that and say: “why not aim for that quality, all the time?” 

But if you bring that game up on Era, it’s just “Druckmann is a dirty Jew, and Isaac and Nora’s deaths are an endorsement of black genocide”.

Spider-Verse is one of the best animated movies in recent times IMO but Miles being black is never really shoved in your face, he isn't immediately competent, he fucks up a lot, and he's a likable dork...yknow like Spider-Man.  The Disney Sponsored version would have been great at the job from jump, been stoic (or cringe like that Thor Variant comic lol) and they would have thrown in something about racism for sure.  As a black guy, my eye glaze over the moment I see a black lead inevitably have to face some form of racism because it feels like its a checkmark being checked more than actually being important to a story.

Basically the ones in charge of this have done a terrible as fuck job at it by zeroing in on it instead of having it happen naturally. Star Wars could have had a Black Lead in Finn but they were too busy creating the bland mary sue that is Rey. Captain Marvel flies and shoots laser beams but they spent most of the run time having her be an unlikable person and the whole run up to the movie being "hey men you suck actually".

diversity also means "one or more games representing a variety of peoples, cultures and sexualities," "one game with only black people," "one game with only white people," "one game with only gay people," "one game with only straight people"

every individual thing doesn't have to represent a cross section of all things, like saying every game needs to be action/rpg/sports/racing/strategy/board game somehow
