So, hormones likely give a quick sugar hit to mental health while they think they're solving their problems with a magic pill and then normal service resumes once that sugar hit wears off...

These two posts being on the same forum always makes me laugh.

Watching 8 hour YouTube videos about "debunking" flat earth conspiracy nonsense is the epitome of privilege and wealth.

Also, the administrator of the forum having the financial and political freedom to complain about capitalism in a post about defacing public property and cultural artefacts while living in your parents comfortable suburban home is even worse because it shows that you are all talk and no action of your own.

Why didn't they name any examples instead of just saying there are several examples? hmm

There is no climate crisis and no irrelevant protest would change it if there were.

You want to kill us? You want to suppress an entire continent? Mandate "degrowth" aka mandatory increasing poverty for the entire planet.

Yeah, that's insane. You literally want to kill billions of people and have the survivors suffer immensely to punish them for "sins" and some Malthusian nonsense you couldn't remotely explain.
"If you're concerned about the future you should want us to expand our capabilities so we can tackle potential problems."

"NO WE SHOULD DIE EN MASSE AND GO BACK TO SUBSISTENCE LIVING FOREVER AND ANYONE WHO TRIES TO RECREATE MODERN TECHNOLOGY SHOULD BE KILLED!!!!"

Yeah, a little insane.

No, because that's not an example of it.

And it's not about whether "global warming" or "climate change" is real. That's exactly the form of discussion the cultists want to avoid the questions about their religion. Look at how you immediately jumped to that framing as if it has anything to do with the guy saying everyone agrees the poor should just fucking suffer and die for his religion.

I hope you understand I cannot install an A/C in my department, so I’m a little tired to think why what why the quoted post deserved a sardonic response. The quoted post being: “We need to stop oil and doing something.” just to be clear. It just weird because it felt non controversial at first sight.

Because this:

Because stopping oil and "doing something" to deliberately impoverish people will not change a single fucking thing about the heat you're experiencing, but will make plenty of poor people including yourself suffer and die just to appease his religious beliefs about humanity's sins.

He is literally saying he wants increased energy prices for everyone on the planet in a thread where everyone is demanding far more harsh punishment of everyone on the planet and he's not disagreeing. What should I imagine he's saying instead?
He didn't say "we should crash build tens of thousands of nuclear plants all over, especially in poor countries, so that the value and necessity of oil drops dramatically" because that's not what's important to these people. What's important is punishing humanity for imaginary sins.

BTW, yes Benji, I understand oil is necessary and is a source of income, specify for my country (to bad the government company here is corrupt and incompetent as hell). I just don’t know how you can extrapolate a Nepenthe like tirade from “I wish people did something about this”.

In risk of revealing my Power Levels…

It feels so great growing up in one of the most contaminated places of the planet because there is a refinery close by. And I’m sure everyone here is benefiting from it. Wait, you guys can drink tap water safely? Uh… weird.

Again, if he meant that why didn't he say it? Why didn't he push back on all the people in the thread explicitly saying otherwise? Why did he say "everyone agrees" with them?

As always, I have no idea what the relevance of the rest of your ramblings are about so I can't respond to them.

Environmental discussions are challenging because inevitably it ends with somebody asking “do we really need South Asia?” and everyone settling on pointless practices like an extra 2 cents for plastic bags.

I'm not extrapolating anything from that dude's posts, you're the one trying to force your opinion on that dude for some weird reason.

If you want me to assume your meaning about the refinery it's that you're trying to frame me as being pro-waste and anti-clean-water because I don't think hundreds of millions should be harmed out of some cult nonsense that won't even change what they're dishonestly claiming to be concerned about. Even though this is completely irrelevant to the conversation and is just an attempt to falsely accuse me of something so you can browbeat me about it.

They're talking about the Just Stop Oil people, they're saying "stop oil", they're not criticizing any of the insanity. These people do not support "alternative fuels that will eventually lower oil dependence" (especially since they only support alternatives that require fossil fuels but I digress) they want the immediate cessation of all fossil fuels usage globally. This isn't some nuanced position you have to read between the lines, they want hundreds of millions of people if not billions to die off immediately because they think humans are a scourge on the planet. They don't hide this, they say it. That thread is full of it. That guy said "everyone agrees" with this position.

If you're saying that when they say "stop oil" they actually just mean "make life better" than them saying "stop oil" is meaningless and there's no reason for them to say it. I'm not going to assume they mean something moderate and nuanced when they're talking about the end of the world because they could just say that if they mean it. Where should I draw the line at assuming everyone actually means something reasonable when they say insane things? That when you smear Zack Snyder's Academy Award winning Justice League that you actually mean it's one of the finest achievements in cinematic history?

Yeah, I'm not going to do that because it's absurd.
