Nepenthe's ignorance and lack of understanding nuance blinds her to the fact that lots of Abolitionists wanted to end slavery so all the Blacks could be deported to Africa and America would be whites only.

It was only after the war that some finally came to see Blacks as Americans. That wasn't the "other" position before the war, that's why there was almost no outrage at Dred Scott declaring Blacks to be non-citizens.
