You’re reading it as a stance or an endorsement. The famous and oft used example is Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew. Or I guess the recent example the right adores is El Salvador under Bukele. Again, I don’t think people are cogs. Or seek to be infantilized. People have different lifestyles and cultures and so on. Moralizing history isn’t particularly interesting to just say “oof” and not learn and appreciate.

Also have no reservations or shame in saying I prefer the first world. Others feel differently and that’s okay. I have stronger opinions on people who take their gap year to discover themselves in a third world nation and treat it as a theme park before fucking off back home. But that’s another discussion.

I said, statistically, not everybody wants that. People are individuals with different wants and needs. Pragmatism isn’t cynicism. Cynicism is saying you shouldn’t help anybody because a few reject it.

In his acceptance speech, he called out a few people of note, in particular the UK Equality Minister Kemi Badinoch, as saying "I don't wish her any ill will or harm, I just wish her position wouldn't exist and she would shut up" regarding these issues due to her iffy views on gender rights in the UK.

Now some within the UK government like Rishi Sunak and celebrities like JK Rowling are saying that Tennant's speech is the line being crossed here, not Kemi's beliefs, in particular I saw some trying to recontextualize his speech as "using his male entitlement to try and push misogyny and downplay the safety of girls and women everywhere by disguising it as a trans ally speech" or simply that he is "anti free-speech", that's the angle Kemi herself went with.

I mean it is a guy telling a woman to shut up about concerns that affect her gender but not his own. Bonus points for him being white and her black. (Which doesn't really matter in the context but something something intersectionality)
This is the worldview they themselves have heavily endorsed (and still do if it aligns ideologically) and now they cry when it's used against them
