I know it's anti-immigration rioting, but some of these clips from the police response are laughable. They're gonna start extraditing international citizens for...*checks notes*...spamming an online chat window? They're locking people up for posting/re-sharing anti-glurge ("1 like = 1 deport!") on facebook?

Its partially not fully understanding the inherently international aspects of the internet, partially an over inflated sense of their own importance, and partially as pointed out above that in the UK there is no statutory concept of free speech and people have not only been arrested for posting pretty banal shit on facebook, they've been arrested for posting on a forum where someone else has posted some shit.

But if we can't extradite an american spook for shitty driving that killed someone, we're not gonna get someone extradited for shitposting on twitter.

You always see this when left wing governments come into power.
The public servants are sort of left leaning to begin with(big government, duh) and usually actively sabotage right wing governments because they don't agree with the policies they have to enact and enforce. This is not 'treason' this is 'defending democracy'. 

Once the left is in power, the public servants and NGOs feel emboldened to run wild. They know the left wing politicians will change the laws or cover for them instead of holding them to account or any kind of standard. Especially if it has been pent-up because they have been out of power for so long. And remember big cities like London are like 75% left and populated with foreign born citizens and that's where all the big centralized 'diverse and inclusive' government institutions are.

Maybe it’s just being British, but all the guys at the forefront of this have terse thin lips, despondent eyes, weak forward shoulder posturing. General meekness. Keir most of all exudes that sort of worm like presence. I’m used to Americans projecting an aura of strength, if shallow. The United States not only passed a law refusing to recognize British libel rulings, it explicitly refuses to extradite people for such things. Extradition in general typically does not work for things the country doesn't recognize as crimes.

In any case, I think that cop was just being a cop and sounding vaguely tough, not laying out a theory of jurisdiction.
