2 days. I accepted a canvassing job in my early 20s. It was at the height of the 2010 financial crisis and I felt super sleazy basically begging for money, even if it was ostensibly for a good cause (it was for the Nature Conservancy, I never bothered looking into how legit they are, or how much of the money we collected went to them).

Day 1 was training. I quit after the first day of actually doing the job.

I was really impressed at some of the stuff I learned. The craziest to me was basically a manipulation technique I learned from the guy training me. I told him I had a bunch of people basically tell me “I support the Nature Conservancy, but I already donate online.” I told the trainer guy and he was like “oh, I wish you would have told me earlier, when people say that you just say ‘We really appreciate your support, but if you give even a small amount it supports us having people out here talking to people who may not prioritize conservation as much as you do.’”

I thought it sounded like bullshit, but no joke I used that line on something like five or six people and all but one gave me money.

Somebody got too close to how all the causes they support over there operate.

Not specifically you, but I get the impression sometimes some in this thread make it seem current PS5 owners have to pay $500-$600 for a new PS5 Pro.... when, just like the PS4 Pro, there were great trade in deals for the system.

So for myself, it is worth paying $100-$200(for disc drive as well) more to get a PS5 PRO, after trading in my PS5.

I'm expecting we'll get $350-$400 credit for Physical PS5s in late 2024.

I might not get the disc attachment right away because I think I've claimed/bought most of my PS4 disc collection on digital.

There is no end to the abuse, I spent my whole 20s boot strapping and having faith in a system that only takes and does not give. I've never left my state once since I cannot afford a vacation, never been on vacation and have always chose to work since I would drown otherwise.

I want my life "back" I don't even know what that means cause I've been sold a lie and I'm having trouble returning this propaganda. I'm afraid I'm going to snap any day now and just quit.. probably end up on the streets. It's obviously what I was destined to become.

I hate that our society is set up for couples and not single individuals. Been numerous studies done over the years showing how life in the US is considerably more expensive for those without a significant other. It's a part of the overarching problem that doesn't get talked about nearly enough.. In my neck of the woods, average rent is around 1200/month. Between 2 people, it still sucks but is manageable if both people are employed full time. For 1 person? Fuck that. You're better off buying a small plot of land, having a small modular home built and spending the next 20-30 years paying it off.

It's still a shit life, living in decades of debt, but it's better than throwing a gross amount of money to someone who doesn't actually need to charge nearly as much as they say they do.. every landlord will argue that the cost of this and that has gone up, and what about all the repairs they'll need to do?? You know, the ones that most of us never call them about because they don't actually exist?

Fuck landlords, get your own land.
