The thing that has me so fascinated is that this is a great example of Era failing at its only real draw: being THE place to discuss breaking gaming news and leaks.

I think people underestimate the chud's influence because they don't want them to have that sort of pull. They just don't want to believe it. Almost every time I open steam forums I see it. 2 women kissing in a screenshot for a game? The forums had a long ass thread about how that's sexual content and the game should be banned.

These games that get targeted get review bombed, or have their bad reviews elevated, and their forums get flooded because they're invested in seeing the games or the industry conform to server what they want. I think the healthy approach is to not believe the world does, or should, or ever has revolved around you. Even someone having these stupid beliefs should understand that not everything is about them, or their group.

I'm convinced this is something pretty much every resetera member does outside the forum. Even someone like Morrigan was calling people cunts in the Sony discord. This makes it all the funnier that they consider their forum one of the last safe places on the internet and yet everyone is constantly self censoring themselves out of fear of getting banned.
That's also the reason why Resetera has perhaps one of the most toxic forum cultures out there because everyone is constantly passive aggressively loaded, either baiting others into bans or being worried that their opposite is trying to bait them into a ban.

How the times have changed, I remember the Atari people always spoke fondly of the office parties and hot tubs from the Bushnell era in the documentaries even the women.
It was basically like the Wolf of Wall Street without any innocent victims (except for WB and parents that bought E.T. maybe?). They knew the gravy train wouldn't last forever so they partied hard. 

For Bungie the stories of the 'college dorm' days were also very positive. In fact, prior to launch the original Xbox staff 'fled' there to avoid the corporate machine and be able to sleep in the office. Development mostly consisted of playing HALO until it was good and trying to figure out the development tools and hardware as they were making the campaign. 

Gaming has really moved on from free thinking libertarians to marxist puritans and now you even get retroactively cancelled.

Part of these stories is resentment from the current Bungie/Halo folks I guess. How could these guys with 0 experience and a broken engine tape together one of the best games of all time  while a team of 500 AAAA+ developers with proven skills and a large DEI department can't make something nearly as compelling with infinite resources. It must drive them up the wall, especially the people that remained and moved up the ranks of the corporate ladder trying to replicate the success and failing over and over again.
