I think some of it is just the result of face scanning being the new normal now.

This has been proven false by Hideo Kojima and Capcom perfectly scanning the bodies they put in their games (be it male or female).

I think the difference is that Kojima and Capcom actually adjust the scanned models to make sure their proportions are flattering ingame. But the western studios don't because woke.

I think they confuse photo realism with the need to not adjust their characters. Because unless they are as incompetent as Concord devs/producers, they will still want it to be appealing to the audience. They most probably think it doesn’t matter if the character don’t look pretty in a “realistic” game. Ala bald white dude bro protagonist we got for years during the start of the HD era.

The new Joanna Dark looks like Duke Nukem on hrt in some of the screenshots they showed off. The new Lara Croft seemingly sports a 5 o clock shadow.

To play devil's advocate here, I don't know how intentional this actually is. I think some of it is just the result of face scanning being the new normal now. And for some reason when they do that, it translates to a big jaw on the game model if they don't adjust it. Like, Aloy's face model is actually really pretty but somewhere between the face being scanned and the model being made Aloy ended up with this giant potato head. 

I guess maybe the "DEI" factor to the whole thing is that none of the devs want to adjust the scanned faces for fear of furthering "toxic beauty standards" or something. So now all these girls have giant jawlines in western games.

That's something I could see. Another factor I wonder about is if developers are simply shit at styling their characters. A big part of why MJ looks so fucked in Spider-Man 2 is because the hairstyle just doesn't suit her at all and is probably something the real life model she's based on would never wear. Same with makeup etc.

Something like the soul reaver statue is pretty confounding though because it's just so random and pointless. I'm sure people will respond with "omg why do you care about a statue" but I wonder why someone cared enough to change it in the first place

I mean, someone cared enough to get it changed and another didn’t care enough to fight against it.  

And, depending of the reasoning, I can see them excusing it as “we wanted to be more influenced by X old culture style”. Is a silly change and I think people have the right to mock whenever hypothetical person come with it.

Honestly, I think is kind of correct for the Soul Reaver remaster because there is no reason to change the statue chin outside of “want it to look from another culture because insane inclusive reasoning.”

The change of the statue didn’t  particularly bothered me until I noticed the chin.

Just to clear, I also support the idea of not buying the game if you dislike this change that much. 

I don’t want the studio to close but I also want pushback against this stuff.

I don’t have faith in most modern western studios to do this kind of old games anymore, so is not a big loss if they don’t do another Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain game.

People don't have a problem with pronouns. Nobody has a problem with the words "he", "she", or "they". And look, I get it, most trans women fail to pass and need to make their pronouns known so they don't get called a man by virtually everyone. I get it. But that doesn't change the fact that many of them get really fucking obnoxious about it, which would naturally lead to everyday people who were perhaps tolerant of these newly progressive ideals, to become very jaded and disillusioned about the whole thing. I know I am.

Also L Thammy is a bitch who posts constantly in the burka thread. Pretty sure he has a hateboner (literally, as in he hates that they give him a boner) over the girls from Soul Calibur.

What's also annoying about this is that deep down people know that it's dumb to always ask for pronouns. 

Let's take the new Ghost game for example. Literally everyone instantly exclaimed that it has a female lead. The actress playing the character is even non-binary but that doesn't matter, everyone instantly knew that's a woman. If they really meant it they'd now be complaining that everyone assumes the game's character is female solely based on her appearance and name (sucker punch doesn't use any pronouns for her in the press release) but they don't because they know that's idiotic.

I feel it's also the more deigetic gameplay. Instead of a marker on the minimap you follow a golden bird that's actually a part of the world. Felt like a more cohesive experience even though technically you're going through the same motions.

Yeah he seems like a genuinely nice guy but people need to remember he's not young anymore and he's an actor, not in some profession that implies astute critical thinking skills lmao.
