To me, some people's relentless excusing of Nintendo's clearly bad faith behavior here is just as bad as Disney apologists that think Disney bullying around federal copyright laws to their benefit every few years to keep their characters out of the public domain to "protect their IP" is admirable because people adore Disney IPs. If Nintendo wants to steal attention away from 4K 120 FPS Echoes of Wisdom, they should fucking announce the successor to their 7-year-old hardware and release ports of their games that actually perform. Yet here we are in 2024 without a single official detail, while they simultaneously blanket-punish many talented people and fans for playing their games on hardware they own.

I mean, this is pretty clearly abuse of the copyright system not "bad faith behavior" or defending IP. (Nor is such abuse new from Nintendo.) So I assume ResetERA.com's defense of it is blah blah protect artists, blah blah everybody does it. Like with ActivisionBlizzard.

Nintendo was sort of ok'ish with it but with all these handheld PCs and emulators specifically being tuned to make Switch games run on Steamdeck and whatnot it was a matter of time before they would put their foot down. In fact some of the handhelds are promoted through influencers for being better at running Switch games.

They usually do these crack downs before they launch new hardware to gain trust of publishers I guess.

It's kind of shitty how Nintendo handles the back catalog at times (limited time release of NES roms included) but it's not like any Switch games are rare at this point and by the time they are hard to find Nintendo probably won't go after them like they don't bother with NES roms. 

Running the games at 4k, well to me it looks like they weren't designed to run like that in the first place. From what I've seen a lot of games look off with mismatched particle resolutions and missing effects as is common with emulation.

Exactly. There's a difference to the current emulation scene and what was happening in the PS1 days where mod chips and modded consoles were more common than unmodded consoles towards the end of that generation and of course the DS where piracy was pretty simple.

Nintendo has a right to shut down pirates. It's pushing things too far when going after YouTube channels and emulators. 

That being said, there's definitely a big piracy draw to emulation and always has been. Emulator developers crying about preservation can be pretty disingenuous sometimes.

I find it rather annoying, and concerning at worst, that Aloy's women companions are being depreciated in favor of the men. In the upcoming LEGO game, the only playable woman besides Aloy looks to be Teersa (????) and the marketing pushes Varl the hardest. The game seems to be focused on the events of Zero Dawn and Frozen Wilds, yet they only have Varl and Erand. The former had only a small role to play, which I don't mind being expanded. The problem is where the hell is Talanah, Petra, or Vanasha? Hell, Sona would make much more sense than Teresa, especially with the focus on the Nora.

Then the cover/promotional artwork for Zero Dawn Remastered has fucking Nil, of all people, rather than any of the women mentioned above. At least Ourea is included since she is the only important character from Frozen Wilds. Though she isn't a companion/ally in same way as Varl and Erand. Naturally Erand is included in the art because they sure love shipping his pathetic ass with Aloy.

It all makes me pretty worried that they (SIE and Guerilla Games) regret making Aloy quite possibly a lesbian or at least into women.
