They're protecting Trump. Defendants are the ones who benefit from not talking about their cases publicly, DoJ policy probably does not allow the prosecutors to just request it because "defendant will obviously not listen to his counsel" so "defendant will not refrain from issuing public threats" is the next best thing.

Trump probably doesn't mind losing the cases since he thinks he only benefits politically.

They can't censor him through Twitter like they did before, so they're trying to silence him with court orders.

During the January 6 trials it was already clear that they had very little evidence. All the trial did was show that January 6 was a protest that turned into a riot, not an insurrection or coup attempt. This is also how Trump recovered politically. Their trial backfired.

Meanwhile the evidence that the riot was provoked by the feds is piling up using the exact same playbook that they do in foreign countries.
