Michael Knapinski made headlines nationwide in 2020 after his frightening encounter with death. He was climbing Mt Rainier in Washington when he was caught in whiteout conditions. Rescuers found him and transported him to an emergency room, but he died for 45 minutes while in there before doctors could successfully revive him.

“It was just really special to see someone that we had worked so hard on from start to finish to then wake up that dramatically and that impressively.”

She added, “It reminded me of this is why we do this. This is why we are doing the long hours, this is why we’re away from our families, this is why we’re here.”

After the ordeal, Knapinski told ABC News he hoped to use his second chance to lead a better life and to give more to charities and to contribute to society.

"I’m already a grateful person, you know? But this is life-changing over the top. I mean. Get more involved in service work and stuff like that. I definitely owe society a lot," he said in November 2020. "I've got a million people to thank."

According to court papers, Knapinski was meeting a man outside of a Safeway in Bothell to buy $1,900 worth of meth and fentanyl. A witness reportedly told police they saw the victim enter Knapinski's SUV, which was parked outside the store.

Prosecutors believe the victim was then shot and dumped in the middle of the parking lot, before Knapinski drove away.

Court documents also say that Knapinski eventually admitted to his roommate that he shot the man.

Prosecutors have painted Knapinski as a dangerous criminal in court documents in an effort to keep him in jail until his trial.

"Based on the nature of this crime, there is a substantial likelihood the defendant will commit another violent offense," prosecutors wrote. "It would appear that (Knapinski) chose to shoot and kill the victim for $1,900 worth of drugs. If he is able to take a man's life for such a small amount of money, it is likely he would commit another violent offense."

Fat cat eating rat prompts lockdown at Groff Elementary School

MOSES LAKE, Wash. - Students at Groff Elementary School came home with quite the story after a 'fat cat eating a rat' prompted a lockdown on Tuesday.

According to the communications and public information officer, Claren McLaughlin, the school was told to lock down around 10:30 a.m. due to a mountain lion in the area. The school followed all protocols and initiated a lockdown, which was quickly changed to a 'secure the building' where classes resumed, but students stayed indoors.

The school then learned the alleged mountain lion was a "fat cat eating a rat."

"While we take all reports seriously, this was the first report we've ever had of this nature," said McLaughlin.

The school's main priority is keeping students and staff safe. Classes resumed as usual shortly after this incident.

Ehrlich said he has collected 1,900 "votes" at his coffee shop for the past four years, saying such an unusual ballot has holy precedent.

"Nineteen hundred votes since our election," he said. "The longest election in history was from 1268 to 1271, when they couldn't find a pope. So actually, I have the longest election in history."

Asked whether he might take another shot at running for mayor in two years, using more conventional methods that could land him on the ballot, he said: "No, I'm mayor now. Why do I have to wait two years? I am mayor at this moment. I can write an executive order."
