Some of us, on an individual basis, do take breaks from it from time to time, because it can sometimes be a lot to process. Like pretty much everyone here, what happened Tuesday evening hurt me and hurt me bad. The next 2-4 years are going to absolutely suck, and they will have consequences that are felt by generations to come...if there even are generations to come.

I tend to be a rather introspective person, and the last couple of days of not eating and going to bed at 8pm and still getting maybe 5 hours of sleep have led me to realize something. I got dealt a pretty shitty hand when it comes to life. I'm 41, born in 1983. My first week of college, on my own, ready to experience the world...9/11 happens. I get out of college, ready to move out of my parents' house and apply my skills, and there's a global recession making me unable to find a well-paying job for years. I bring a child into this world and want to do all these amazing things with them, and there's a global pandemic that keeps us stuck in our house.

Just a whole bunch of terrible shit, none of which is my fault, and yet, probably set me back years when it comes to experiencing the world.

So honestly, part of my reaction from this past Tuesday is more or less being resigned to that fact. Nothing is ever going to go my way. Ever. I'll have fun moments, getting married, bringing two kids into this world, sure, but I'll never be able to truly appreciate them because of all the bullshit that constantly faces me.

So yeah, I appreciate everyone who is going to step up and fight. Really, I do. And to be clear, this is NOT me saying I'm going to hurt myself or do anything that could cause myself harm. But I'm going to be honest, right now I just want to be Tony Stark in Avengers Endgame after the Snap. Go live in the woods with my wife and my kids and just ignore everything going on around me except for what affects me directly. I know many of you think of me as weak and selfish for doing so, and I don't blame you. I honestly feel ashamed of myself. I'm fully aware that all it takes for evil to flourish is for good people to do nothing. But good people ARE doing things, and evil is STILL flourishing. Arguably it's now stronger than ever.

So really, I'm just done. Done being hurt, done being disappointed. Just done.

(I should conclude this by saying yes, I do see a therapist and am on medication...at least until RFK Jr. makes it illegal and I have to treat myself with bleach or some shit)
