There’s a long running Japanese program called Hajimete no Otsukai. Premise is young children are sent on their first errand with hidden cameras filming. Netflix translated some episodes and release them internationally in 2022. Reaction from Americans was like, this is child abuse! How can a child walk to a grocery store alone! They’re riding a bus???
Growing up pre cellphones was a different world. ![]()

I think there is huge merit toward moving back to greater childhood independence, but these particular stories are always so slanted that it sabotages the point. The last time I read a story like this, the headlines were like "Mom ARRESTED because child walked 1 mile alone to his own house!"...then I read the context, the reason the kid was walking in the first place was because the mom had kicked the him out of the family van on the way home for misbehaving and made him walk the rest of the way home as a punishment. Apparently he was crying as he walked. To me, that seems like a normal condition for an adult to intervene (not knowing any other context). This incident seems way more benign, at least from the background reading I've done. If anything, it reinforces "don't talk to strangers"...not because you're gonna be kidnapped, but because some random Rosie the Nosy Neighbor is gonna call the cops on your mom. ![]() ![]()

I know it's not realistic, but I wouldn't mind if political advisers only get paid if they fucking win

Chuck just asked Hitler and the groypers to pass the Antisemitism Awareness Act.

I no way is this a good response to the issue, it's just telling people to shut up. If Kamala had given this answer she'd have lost even harder ![]()
1. there are only a few of them: there are a lot of things we care about despite there only being a few of them, what if gun lobbyists argued that "only a few people want to own assault rifles, minuscule amount really," is that a valid argument?
2. they have no advantage and don't threaten safety or fairness: so that's an outright lie, getting easier and easier to look up, and people like you fight tooth and nail to prevent any kind of research or data collection on this point, because you know what it would reveal 3. it's weird to focus on this subject: lol lool I called u weird so I win ![]() 4. you should worry more about creepy assistant volleyball coaches: ok, so anything you want to worry about can now be equally downplayed, oh you're worried about abortion? maybe you should worry more about global climate change ![]()

Now that the tide had turned on this shit, were going to start seeing more and more people brave enough to conduct some actual research and were going to see journalists brave enough to report on the issue with some balance and clarity.
It won't be long before we see multiple stories about female athletes being seriously injured by trans competitors and questions being asked of administrators about the safety of women in these competitions.
