True true comrade, the best kind of crime prevention is to only employ people as police in secret so nobody knows who they are, and vanish suspects in the middle of the night while keeping the crimes and accusers undisclosed, which doesn't matter because they will be tried in secret anyway and the arbiter will write down whatever best loosely fits their crime in the redacted record, probably something something something dissident.
Combine this with sending all records to central bureaucracy so that official crime figures can be correctly measured to reflect successful policy, and you will have barely any crime at all!

so, "prevent crime" means to set right the wrongs that occur when laws are broken, and much of the law does in fact revolve around who owns a thing and who has damaged it or stolen it or deprived someone else of value/benefits that legally belong to them

so yes, protecting capital is the same thing as preventing crime

if you meant police tend to provide more benefit to the wealthy or to large corporations, there are much better ways to express that belief

Its also the fact most police forces are not called "crime prevention" - they are called something like peace keepers or law enforcement.
Visibility that laws are enforced / public order is maintained is the prevention aspect, the closest you get outside of precog units to prevention is use of informants, which has its own downsides.

It just reeks of a lack of, I dunno...corporate imagination. Of course the calculus isn't just "make good games that review well and win the console wars". I gotta believe Sony and Nintendo both think really hard about better-than-good constantly, and consider tons of factors external to just the game quality: release timings, advertising windows, marketing positioning, in-house vs. external, do we marry this to an IP or not, etc etc.

Like, I don't know if Sony would've even gone for Indiana Jones...is that really the IP you want your best developers working on in 2024? Does the IP offer anything beyond added constraints?

I just feel like Xbox doesn't even ask get around to asking those questions. "Hey, we've got licensed IP games too!" is about the beginning and the end of their analysis and planning as far as I can tell.

Nintendo try and make 'good' (YMMV - they basically do the successful indie route of make something innovative and then polish the shit out of it, sometimes slap on a Known Franchise as its face to get eyes on it) games because when the GC was a pretty powerful machine at a lower price than the competition it fucking bombed and they don't have the funds from other income sources to play a protracted moneyhat war.

Sony don't give a fuck about 'good', they spend all their cash on proven templates to make people go WOW LOOK AT DEM GRAPHIX, and of course then want to buy a bigger better TV, new soundbar, etc etc etc. They don't really give a shit about their first party making its money back because as long as It Is Known that Playstation is better than Xbox they get all the third party moneys. They'll also happily release an IP tie-in if they can monetise it elsewhere (kind of surprising they didnt do a AAAA ghostbusters tbh), but they'd rather create new IP to try and monetise elsewhere (look forward to Concords upcoming TV show!).

Xboxs established bet is to be 'most powerful', but you can't show that off when all your studios are either technically or artistically incompetent; Jankfest Starfield isn't making people go "Holy shit, Xbox is a beast!". Rare (used to?) have the technical know how, but they make everything look artistically shit and then add googly eyes.
