I don't really get the people saying he's right wing. He comes off more as an enlightened centrist given the support or interest he had for some SV tech bros while simultaneously critiquing Jordan Peterson. I'd wager he's a relatively smart guy that's just has more in common with the average/median voter than any particular right-wing agenda. I mean, at the end of the day he murdered a CEO. That's quite literally the antithesis of being right-wing.

I edited in some additional thoughts in that post, but I personally dont need or expect perfectly ideologically aligned allies if we are in common cause on something as enormously consequential as systematic and legalized social murder for profit or taking down the oil industry to save the planet. I can gladly strike common cause with you on those things and use that relationship to try and move you on something else. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but the guy literally showed he's pretty pot committed to the cause of ending our ghoulish for profit healthcare system, so if I have the non murderer version with that energy and commitment helping on an issue, I'd still make common cause.

I don't really have any advice to give you here on how to talk your friend out of his opinion - it's pretty difficult to break someone when they're THAT dedicated to an idea, and I'm basically a total wreck tonight - but I hope he realizes he's alienating people with his rants.

The simple truth is that as long as we're participating in capitalism, our money - some shred of it or another - is going to go to bad people and be used to fund bad things. Whether it's the CCP, or rich CEOs who immediately donate to Republican political campaigns, capitalism disproportionately benefits the oppressors at the expense of everyone else. There is no escaping it. So if your friend's argument is centered around not wanting to fund bad behavior, he's going to have to take a long look at his spending habits and realize that even if he completely cuts all Chinese-owned companies (which is insane, considering that Chinese companies manufacture an absurd amount of the products we use day to day, and thus get paid for their manufacturing contributions) out of his life, he'll still be funneling money to bad people.

The other possibility is just that your friend is racist and he finally feels emboldened enough to not pretend anymore. I hope that's not the case, though.

so, "prevent crime" means to set right the wrongs that occur when laws are broken, and much of the law does in fact revolve around who owns a thing and who has damaged it or stolen it or deprived someone else of value/benefits that legally belong to them

so yes, protecting capital is the same thing as preventing crime

if you meant police tend to provide more benefit to the wealthy or to large corporations, there are much better ways to express that belief

As for the snitch. This is one of the most potent tools the wealthy have against us: the precarity they inflict upon us makes us desperate and willing to mostly do anything to get a drop of their money, which is nothing to them but life-changing to us. Usually it manifests in things like having to work a shitty McDonalds job for just enough to keep living, but it can also be snitching like this. It wasn't the millions in resources they swung into action, it was a poor, desperate worker that did it.
This is the balance the oligarchs are attempting to achieve: keep us as desperate as possible to exploit us, but not so desperate we kill them.

I'm going to post an unpopular take about the money.

Not suggesting that I'd take it. I'd don't think I would. I come from the "mind your own business" school of living.

But I can understand why a boomer at McDonalds might. And it has a lot to do with them not living online.

Now, I'm college educated. I enjoy a job that underpays me but engages me in the field that I love. And through it I enjoy a decently middle class life. And even considering that…50k would pay my rent for 2 years minimum. Would it be enough for me to snitch? Most likely not, but it's not nothing.

Put yourself in the mindset of a boomer eating at a McDonald's in fucking Altoona. That two all-beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed bun probably isn't enough to make them feel very privileged. They're likely also not hyper online and following CEO Robin Hood's every move while hanging all the hope of a class war on his shoulder. They're regular people, probably only knowing this guy's face BECAUSE a 50k bounty's been put on it.

What does not turning them on do for their lives? What does it change? Do they gain anything from not doing it? What isn't fanfiction here?
