My grandma, aunt and my one uncle and his kids are sane, thankfully. My mom is disgustingly centrist and entertains Trump's anti-trans and immigrant rhetoric despite not openly supporting him, in addition to bafflingly saying RFK is not anti-vax despite knowing I'm on the spectrum. My sister is somewhat similar while my brother is a MAGA meathead. The worst is my dad, who outright antagonizes me for not being conservative and is outright sociopathic in his ultra MAGA views, such as openly cheering the pager attacks in Lebanon. It's outright impossible to talk politics with my immediate family because it feels like getting attacked 1v4 most of the time and they're incapable of self-reflection. It's bad enough to have seriously harmed my mental health and I feel like my grandma, aunt and uncle's family are the only ones I can talk politics with.

Hello there. So I am a gay man in my thirties. I had a friend whom I had made back in 2018.

I started talking video games with this guy who was really funny. We found that we both really synchronized, we both enjoyed retro games, had the same sense of humor, liked trying to compete and encourage each other in running. learning musical instruments, and working out. I knew that he was attractive but I was not willing to admit to myself how much I liked him. I was in a long term relationship at this time which fell apart (alcoholism).

I stopped talking to him when I got a new job around Covid era. I knew that I needed to focus on myself and finish school. I blocked him and our friend group via phone number blocking. I made new friends. I admitted that I had feelings for him to myself. Fast forward a year, my long term relationship falls apart, I can't take his alcoholism anymore and I kick my ex out of my house.

I unblock my friends number. A few days later I get a phone call and it's my friend. He asks why I haven't answered for a year (weird?). I tell him a lie, I say that I was not happy with his politics or something. We talk. We both forgive each other. Against my best judgement, I ask him to move in with me. He loves being with me. He was seeing this girl, he broke up with her because of some falling out they had had. He goes to the gym daily with me, he gets me a job at a new place that pays better, we practice guitar together, we visit his friends and I bring him to visit my friends. We are practically a couple.

I would go out on dates with men and he would drop by and sit at the table with my date and I. I went to stay with some guys overnight and he would text me and tell me how much he had missed me. He would say that *if* he were gay, he'd date me. BUT he isn't.

There are other things I could say about him but I think the point is that, I knew that things were untenable. He was on my mind 24/7 and yet I couldn't have him. And I think he knew that and I think he liked that he could control me. He'd cry on the way back from visiting our friends house because he thought I was so funny and he wished he was like me. Or he'd embrace me after having a bad day and thank me for being his best friend.

I had to end things. I couldn't handle being so close to this man anymore. We were both in our late 20s playing house.
In short I moved states to another city. He came to visit once and see a concert. I then blocked his number again.
It has only been 4 months. I am still struggling to not think about him or things that he said or things we did. I feel guilty because I couldn't just tell him how I felt about him but I knew that it wouldn't be something he''d want to hear.

I even dream about him! It's crazy. I don't want to. I wrote out a letter twice to him and burned them when I was done reading them out loud to try and get my feelings off of my chest but I still miss him. I know it will take time.

I still think about unblocking him, writing up a text to tell him that I had feelings and had to cut him out because the silence is horrible to do to a friend. I am undecided.

This is so painful and stressful, I'm really sorry you went through something so difficult and with a friend you should be able to trust and feel comfortable around.

It's not like he stole your money or something straightforward so it might feel harsh to cut him out, but you made the right call.

He definitely monopolized your time and had a lot of power over your emotions and attachment that he definitely basked in. Inviting himself to dates you to go is a step too far, it'd be weird if you were a couple and it's even worse because you aren't. That's not what a friend who values you and respects you does, this is motivated by ego.

Trust yourself and trust your decision to make things safer for you. You deserve it.

Who is actually considering the content of the games on the platforms? What is being considered offensive or otherwise?

Steam and Itch are saying "not our job" and that's fine. Some governments are using their powers to censor offensive material, and that's fine too (calm down Benji). 

However, you can't deny that when there's a void of control that someone else will step in to fill it. You can see the direct line between "not our job" and the current situation. 

The video game industry likes to think it's still some cottage industry of nerds in bedrooms coding Leisure Suit Larry for fun and laughs. It's not and probably hasn't really ever been.
