it couldn’t have ended any other way sadly, some of these MS studios were absolutely stealing a living for years. when you need half a decade to develop the newest Mid-Game of Whatever (hellblade, avowed, whole of arkane), it really isnt sustainable

There might have been a path to make GamePass sustainable eventually, but it'd need it on every device to boost the number of subscribers. It didn't help that PS, Nintendo, EA, etc. all have their own subscription services too, and MS launched GamePass the same gen Xbox was also trying to recover from the mess left by Mattrick to start the Xbox One generation. 

This idea that Daddy Phil was going to subsidize this big gaming library with day-one new releases forever just wasn't going to fly with a smaller user base. The Activision acquisition accelerated their demise; in combination with their hardware tanking, it was a slowly sinking ship.

Can’t deny that obsidian were pumping out games at a decent clip especially now.  They may not have been successful but they got games out the door which is more than most other developers can say.  Avowed, Pentiment, Grounded 2, and The Outer Worlds 2 all in the span of what 2-2.5 years?  I personally enjoyed Avowed and I thought Outer Worlds 1 was a perfectly cromulent game just haven’t had time to play 2 yet.  They are the perfect gamepass studio IMO.

Can’t deny that obsidian were pumping out games at a decent clip especially now.  They may not have been successful but they got games out the door which is more than most other developers can say.  Avowed, Pentiment, Grounded 2, and The Outer Worlds 2 all in the span of what 2-2.5 years?  I personally enjoyed Avowed and I thought Outer Worlds 1 was a perfectly cromulent game just haven’t had time to play 2 yet.  They are the perfect gamepass studio IMO.

Avowed has some of the worst companions ever placed into an RPG. It’s a stunning achievement tbh. From a story and character standpoint it was so bad it put me off getting TOW2. 

The combat/level design was excellent though, which is a shocker for Obsidian.

Yes I’ll agree with that, blue guy with trauma, chick with dead parent trauma, dwarf with trauma, other companion maybe, I don’t remember.  Frankly I usually don’t give a shit about story in games I just want the gameplay to be fun and avowed had great combat and exploration as you said.

I had a match once where I literally just hard read each target Kingambit wanted to Sucker Punch, even to the point of Protecting multiple times in a row just to make the attack fail. Like...dude. Kowtow Cleave. Iron Head. You surely have other attack slots.

There's nothing more stress-inducing than getting a win in a situation where you lose both of your leads quickly and lose the weather war as a result. At that point I was just praying the stats would work in my favor (OHKO'd the M-Garchomp with Ice Punch and OHKO'd the Aerodactyl with Wave Crash) and then had to okeydoke the Kingambit because I knew he was going to Sucker Punch M-Swampert and not Sneasler, who took it out with one Close Combat.

I honestly don't know how people play this professionally without meds.
