Saints Row 2022 is free today if anyone is interested. I haven't finished it yet, but I enjoyed it so far!

Can't say no to a free game.

I hear they improved it with a bunch of patches after that disaster at launch.

I would call a "bunch of patches" an overstatement.

It shipped buggy, and was received poorly for trying hard to be woke more than anything else. People who say it sank Volition are only partially accurate: Agents of Mayhem did not sell, and that had to hit their operating capital hard.

Embracer bought half the world's menu and then told the waiter that they'd forgotten their wallet.  That's what killed Volition, not this game.

There's plenty to do, and it brings a bunch of what worked in previous installments back to a more grounded experience.

Guardians Of The Galaxy is free on EGS, while we're on the theme of big high profile AAA bombas on an existing IP

[hide]Embracer is fucked. But they're going scorched earth now. In some cases they're trying to get other publishers they partner with to pick up the tab. The publishers are usually willing to take on half the projects. Embracer responds to that by sacking at least half the teams and killing off DLC and support of other titles still important to those publishers.

There's also Gearbox, bought for 1.3 billion or so and now there's a $500 million offer on the table. If the buyer isn't willing to go higher, Embracer will start to gut the studio.

In general the industry is in upheaval. Much comes down to impossible sales targets. The sales numbers reached during the COVID lockdowns are the benchmark but those aren't realistic for most games and especially DLC / in-game tokens and now the panic is setting in.

  • Lost Castle
  • Unity of Command: Stalingrad Campaign
  • Just Die Already
  • Zombie Army Trilogy
  • Crown Champion: Legends of the Arena

The Wisdom Tree thing is a pretty amusing ancient knock-off of Zelda based on the Bible. It's not good or anything but parts of it are literally just the first Zelda in DOS graphics.

Lost Castle is supposedly pretty good. Stronghold too.

Just Die Already looks stupid fun for an hour or two and I've meant to play it just to see if it is, it was free on EGS one time.
