Touching someone and invading their personal space, without any hint of permission, in order to hit on them is not cool. Aaron teaching Miles that is not cool. His masculine bravado is outdated at best. Yes, it's played for laughs and obviously that was a good choice so as to not play into harmful/racist stereotypes. While also showing that it's not a good thing to do. The creative team does a similar thing in Across by having Gwen react fondly/positively to Miles' journal of obsession. I can better frame my point by saying Miles is an awkward teenager who does things that are genuinely creepy in real life. I've been stewing on this for a while, and haven't really dared write to the mod team about it or make a thread because honestly, I'm kind of afraid of catching a ban... And I don't really know what that says about me, or the team, or the state of the internet in general.

I'm going to preface this by stating that, as per the thread rules, I am not trying to relitigate a sanction.

I strongly feel like some of the rules are not clear enough, and that - while I fully appreciate the fact that the team has so, so much work - some of the answers to moderation questions are seriously lacking.

Here's the situation: I posted in the thread about the genocide in Gaza a while back, using a source that was not at the time included in the list of questionable or banned sources. I caught a warning and temporary threadban for citing a questionable source, and when I asked the mods for clarification - let me be clear, I asked for clarification, not a reversal - I received an automated response telling me that my warning would not be reversed and giving no clarification whatsoever, nor acknowledgement that I was sanctioned for citing a source that wasn't included in the questionable sources list.

I really feel like the mod team should do better in this respect, because enforcing unwritten rules and not acknowledging follow-up questions has a real chilling effect on participation.

The post literally says to use legitimate news organizations as a source due to the massive amount of disinformation surrounding the topic and you posted a YouTube channel that very specifically says it's not affiliated with any actual news sources and is backed by a patreon. First of all, I'm legitimately grateful that you took the time to go check the specifics of what I was talking about. Thanks for that.

I'd read several Guardian columns by the guy, but I shouldn't have assumed that his own independent work was considered acceptable. I take responsibility for that lapse in judgement.

I don't disagree with the moderation decision, and that wasn't the point of my post ITT. I have an issue with the response I got when I asked for clarification: it read like an automated response to an appeal, which wasn't what my request was about, and did not answer my question.

"Common sense" is not a universal, and while I acknowledge that I made a mistake, I have only fully understood the specifics of it now that you've explained it to me. I swear I'm not trying to be obtuse, but if the original DM response to my question had been your explanation or something like it, that would've been absolutely fine.

I guess my point is that I'd like for requests for clarification following an infraction not be automatically treated as an appeal, but instead as, well, requests for clarification. And while I fully appreciate the likely volume of similar requests and/or appeals the team has to deal with (some if not many of which I imagine are disingenuous), I will say it would have been perfectly acceptable if an actual answer to my question had taken several weeks or as much time as needed, rather than a quick response that did not answer my question.

So something I've noticed which has become more prominent in recent years concerning opinions on media is people feeling the need to find a "moral panic" reasoning behind it or their opinion is the morally correct position.

- Run through mobile MSN app rewards while making a coffee and my son's breakfast (~5 mins)
- When I log onto work in the morning and join my daily call I launch MS Solitaire on my laptop (any "Xbox" game will work though) and leave it open for at least 15 mins (but I don't need to do anything... just let it run while I work)
- Go through Bing searches on my laptop on Edge (30 total per day). Most I get by just doing what I would normally need to search for, but I have a list of bookmarked searches that I can use to max it out. (~5 mins if I need to run through my bookmarked searches)
- Launch Xbox app on mobile to claim daily check-in and PC game/Game Pass rewards (from Solitaire). Also play a round of Jewel at some point in the day if I feel like it. (~5 mins if I play Jewel)
- At some point in the day I play a game on Xbox console for at least 15 mins, but most days this get it done by my kids when they are playing and use my account in the background.

That's more or less what I do each day, along with ensuring I play at least 8 different Game Pass games in a month (which I pretty much do naturally anyways). The Reward tasks have changed quite a bit over the years, so the routine has adjusted along with it to some degree, but even with missing my dailies here and there I get more than enough points to claim a month of GPU every month. It's better point wise to redeem 3 months of PC Game Pass though and let it convert to 60 days of GPU.
