This is sort of interesting and anecdotally I’ve noticed it among people I grew up with. Don’t know exactly what the cause is. People getting older, the world is chaotic, and they’re wanting stability and structure. Atheists being completely feckless when faced with non-Christian religions. Or similarly observing how secularism wasn’t a shared goal. So why not have your communities or tribe or whatever.

Personally, I didn’t have a religious upbringing. Direct, anyway. When Nightcrawler is telling you about the lord in an X-men cartoon, you do form a certain affinity towards the imagery and themes.

Maybe it's the media they consume and how prevalent it is? Maybe it's the community they surround themselves with? Maybe it's the lack of shaming weird behavior?  
 
I doubt there's a one-size-fits-all answer to it, it's a flurry of things that led us to where we are now.

Maybe I’m making this up but there was a study about dating apps and how it’s really a small pool of lascivious men and women going after each other. Vast majority are angling for relationships and human connection.

That’s the, well, not interesting, but thing about self identifying incels. They want to be the “chad” slag going after different women every night. They wouldn’t be happy or satisfied with a monogamous relationship they could realistically achieve.
