Nintendo, who are stridently conservative letting a trans actor be the lead in one of their most important IPs.

NINTENDER

They'd sink it before it even got off the ground.

Plus they'd have to do some trickery with wardrobes or use cgi because that frame is nasty

Okay I need to stop smoking so much weed cuz apparently I made this post already lol

No? All studies have shown it is generally true, the strongest criticism is that it might be correlation to an unknown third factor not causation.

Can’t believe Thom Yorke said bad people on both sides do bad things while innocents suffer. Unfollowed!!!
I never really investigated Broken Windows theory but doesn't it seem like...intuitively obvious?

I also think it's hilarious how often Era in particular makes this point when someone of the wrong demographics is caught in a criminal act: well, you see, they were pushed into this by circumstances of poverty, want, inadequate housing, lack of access to "nice" neighborhoods, etc. They argue Broken Windows while being careful not to say it directly.

People who've never lived in a shitty neighbourhood think it deserves to be shitty because its cool and urban and having police around keeping the streets crime free is literally fascism and gentrification.

People who actually live in shitty neighbourhoods would quite like to be able to go to work without getting rolled, drug dealers approaching their kids on the way to school, your local stores closing down due to rampant theft, needles and beer cans lying around in the road, etc.

They made that character a woman in the west when initially released, and is the standard Japanese trope of “pretty lady is a dude”.

Plagiarize wrote:This is all so tiresome. Hey, Ruben, whatever you think you know about this, you have no goddamn clue. Which sports? What data or science are you basing that on?

Oh right. No data or science. Cool. Figured.

Let me workshop an answer to this for you. "Gosh, I haven't seen any real evidence that this is something we should be focusing on right now. Maybe if we start to see some of peoples concerns come to light it might be worth looking into, but I can't say I've seen or heard anything to make me think that would be a good use of my time right now."

So you're saying that if the data bore out that trans women have an advantage over cis women, you would accept that transwomen should be excluded from women's sports?

Our students use primary and secondary sources daily, they read and process those sources, and they analyze those sources for: historical contextualization, intended audience, purpose, point of view, etc. Their assessments are not about regurgitating meaningless facts, historical education hasn't been like that for 20 years or more.

I specifically tell students on the first day I don't care about dates, who won that battle, who started that religion, etc. it really isn't important and it has nothing to do with the focus of our class.

dates? Ok sure, within reason (obviously if someone says the war of 1812 happened in 1776, that's an issue).
"who won that battle?" actually, seems kind of important...
"who started that religion?" seems like crucial information for AP World History?

The issue has consistently polled horribly, even with dem constituents in blue states, let alone other demographics and states. The polling is even worse with parents who have kids in school too from what I've seen. Kamala tried to side step it/ignore it and got blasted by commercials throughout the campaign about sports and "transgender prisoners!!". I don't think the party knows what to do with the issue at all at this point, there's no guiding message, and public opinion isn't really changing.
LEADERS can change people's minds on these things. Maybe if they educated themselves on the topic, and spoke rationally, they could either convince people that the whole thing is a nakedly political tactic to drag *everyone's* rights backwards, or highlight how absurd it is for the government to get into the business of dictating who is allowed to chase a ball around a middle school together.

Or you know, stop telling girls they aren't as good at sport as boys? That maybe?

I don't think any amount of pleading to the public by "leaders" will change the fact that, for a lot of people across demographics, seeing 6'2 220lbs transwomen dominating women sports and breaking records in women's leagues looks and feels utterly unfair for the biological female athletes.

The reason people like the MCU is because it's a vehicle for beautiful people to be on screen half naked and in spandex.

Same reason most hetero men love sports, gives them a free pass to ogle sweaty men in tight clothing in huge piles.

Look, what you're saying isn't wild. It's emblematic of the "tradtional" view of masculinity that the man must be aggressive, martial, and employ force to protect his family.

I'm saying that his job is not to be macho, it's to protect his family. Calling the police in the first instance is more likely to resolve the situation without escalation than physically confronting the erratic kid and therefore the best way to protect his family.

Deciding to confront and physically intimidate the kid does more to serve one's male ego than it does to actually resolve the situation and isn't more "masculine".

If the kid actively approached members of your family, sure, you've gotta react in the moment but actively seeking the kid out may only make things worse.

The bits I'm calling out as toxic masculinity is things like you saying the aggression "shows some masculinity". Aggression shouldn't be considered positively masculine, solving the problem should. It leans into stereotypes about men that rarely have a positive impact.

TL;DR - If in your mind "showing some masculinity" means protecting your family in a situation like this, then calling the police in the first instance is more likely to do that without escalation than seeking out and confronting the kid.

What a fucking pussy lol

It's not important many people saw it. I get a call from a good friend, little overweight, his wife none to happy. We all knew Mary's reputation and it wasn't good. So she was expecting, Mary wasn't my type or Tigers or so he said.

Then he came out, looked nothing like him. The king was there actually 3 of them. I said wow Jesus Christ. And it kinda stuck.
